The thing is, if you're hotdogging an engine (of which you have a limited amount) to be a timesheet hero in practice, you've got about 24hrs before you look like a top arsehole. Mercedes don't need to do it. That's the behavior of underfunded teams trying to win sponsors. They have a run program, it's all about the whole weekend.

At the risk of dredging this up again, those messages are very tame. It's not quite appropriate for a married man to be doing that, but I'm not convinced he should lose his job over it.

It doesn't make any sense. Maybe the car is just quick. You can get a pretty good idea using throttle application and corner speeds vs acceleration and comparing it to other instances (testing and FP1). FWIW, there are two telemetry sources, high and low bandwidth. Public data is low and the teams (and maybe others) get the high. IIRC, the low is somewhere around 10 samples per second while the high is in the hundreds per second. I bring it up because most of what we see is based on low bandwidth and with the speeds we are dealing with, it can make a fairly significant difference. The teams have the data and processing to know so much more. It isn’t shared because it would ruin a lot of the drama. |

As much as I dislike Toto, I doubt he would have really relished Horner’s getting fired. Unless, he thought Horner was behind the allegations against his wife, then it’s game on. |
