RB20 got 20+ laps on softs without any drama annd very very little drop off. Were the others on used hards? Another solid platform for the season no doubt.

SAI with a well deserved driver of the day. Hope he continues to command his own races like that the rest of the season.

Ehh….don’t count on it.

2025 is going to be an extreme carryover season as the teams develop the new 2026 car.

Sargeant isn't going to make it through the full season.

In the poll I predicted 8 driver changes for next year. That's looking low. This grid is going to get a lot younger next year.

Well that was a bit boring even if I am happy with the result.

Great job Sainz! I hope he finishes the year ahead of LeClerc. That would be hilarious!

WTF with making Tsunodo move over for Ricciardo? That seemed almost political. I know Ricciardo is popular but does he really need a freebie?

they are saying charles had a brake issue, like we suspected from the live images. Its not impossible that Sainz can be faster, but late braking is usually Charles strong point. clearly something was not ok in that department.

maybe the problem was less significative as the car got lighter

I had LeClerc in-car and audio on the whole race today, he was complaining first sting with what he thought was tires.  Bad set or something he said, then the brakes became an issue.  They said there was a temp imbalance LF/RF with the LF being high.  They only gave him that info after he complained about the front locking and asking if there was an issue though.

I think after that he backed off a bit and let the LF cool and the temps equalize and he could push again when he was catching/passing RUS.  It would be awesome for his engineer to give that info as the temp delta starts to increase.

Edit: post race show just said Ferrari knew Charles had a LF cooling issue after quali and even changed a part up there before the race

With 2025 being pretty much a carryover season, if the FIA doesn’t do anything to slow down the RB20/21, it isn’t a stretch to think Max could win 80% of the races….which would put him past Schumacher and somewhere around 8-15 behind Hamilton.

I’m surprised they could do anything since the cars were in parc ferme.  Think they are only allowed to change damaged parts with like for like.  Sound like what they changed wasn’t the problem.

They replaced one of the LHS front brake duct exits or something according to the FIADocumentsBot on Twitter on the 16 car. Might have explained his brake issues.

Also, Sargent had his steering wheel replaced pre-race, and during the race. Maybe the Williams QA guys didn't test the steering wheels hard enough? Both Albon and Sargeant had steering wheel issues during the race.

Can they just start anyone with the last name Verstappen at the back for 2024?

He was over 8 seconds ahead after 10 laps and almost out of DRS range after one lap.

Well, there was a 38 second gap to the next non-Red Bull car last year at Bahrain and only 25 seconds this year, so that's "progress".

Seems like Perez already needs to forget about even winning a race, much less fighting Max for the championship, and just settle in as permanent wingman.

I've been a massive fan since the 80's but this race has basically sealed the deal on me giving up on the sport for awhile.

This was the gap after only 10 laps.

10 laps.

What have the other teams been doing the off season?

F1 is a joke.

Less than 10 min into the first race and you can clearly see RBR has wrapped up another driver/constructor championship.

To be fair, I think it would’ve been a different story (same ultimate outcome) had LEC not had issues from lap 1.

I don't think so honestly.  Lets be honest, Max wasn't even really pushing out there.  After 8 laps he was what 10 seconds ahead at the beginning.

Whats see what LEC excuse is next weekend.

The other teams have improved much. It’s just that RB has improved almost as much.

This is a direct result of Budget cap and limited testing rules.

It’s almost impossible to catch up when the other are smarter from the get go and then have a headstart

The best part is, this is only half the car.  They've said what mid year they'll be at zero side pods?  So Newey and crew developed a whole new car, and beat the field by 20 seconds.....and Ferrari and crew just copied shit off RB19.....to get where they are now.

Whats the story going to be if the RB gamble with Zero Pods pans out and the gap gets even further mid year?

Ferrari is about the only team who actually  didn’t copy Red Bull much and kept its initial philosophy. They barely were influenced by the height of the anti intrusion bars and side pods, but that’s about it.
They did not adapt their suspension, they didn’t copy the nose nor the rear of the car.

Specifically because copying would have never allowed to beat RB.

RB is just better at designing a car and the rules make it so that it’s impossible to compensate.

Maybe you don’t understand words. Saying that leclerc had a brake issue is not an “excuse”. It’s just an explanation for what we all saw today.
And apparently it has been confirmed by the technical documentation and radio comms about temps.

The bad news is that leclerc black cloud keeps following him around.

Reminds me of Alesi

Heard about 9-10 laps from the end:

Sainz:  When do we expect his (Perez’s) softs to start going off?
Ferrari:  Let me get back to you.
Ferrari: After the next lap we expect you to be quicker on the hards than he is on the softs.

Don’t ever change, Ferrari.
