Some 130 people have been rescued so far from the rubble of a theater that was being used as a shelter in the besieged city of Mariupol when it was destroyed in a Russian strike, a Ukrainian official said Friday.

Ukraine's human rights commissioner Lyudmyla Denisova said in a Facebook post that rescue work at the Mariupol Drama Theatre is ongoing as some 1,300 people are believed to still be trapped.

However, rescue efforts have been hampered by continued fighting.

There have not yet been any reports of deaths in the wake of the Wednesday strike on the building in the besieged city.

Hundreds of civilians had been taking shelter in the grand, columned theater in central Mariupol after their homes were destroyed in three weeks of fighting in the southern port city of 430,000.

Agreed.

Recognizing and calling out Russian propaganda to prevent its effects on the conflict is countering another Russian strategy prong, simply on a different front than a Ukrainian battlefield.

If anyone feels this thread needs to be solely about explosions, destroyed vehicles, and dead bodies, perhaps they need to go grab some popcorn and watch the Michael Bay movie of their choice instead because this is the real world.

A video address by Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Russian people was trending on Russian Twitter on Friday and has sparked reaction.

In it, Schwarzenegger warns Russians they are being fed misinformation about their country's assault on Ukraine.

Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin directly, he says: "You started this war, and you can stop it".
His intervention has been praised by Russians who oppose the war in Ukraine.

Writing on the Telegram app, opposition politician Lev Shlosberg said it had been filmed "with respect towards us, Russian people".
"Arnold Schwarzenegger has a unique ability to talk to anyone with persuasion, respect and on equal terms. Wits, power and justice. Have a listen. Think about it. Understand," Mr Shlosberg said.

Also on Telegram, liberal journalist Anton Orekh said his message contained no "Russophobia".
"We are outcasts in the world.. Arnold is one of the few people who addressed Russians not as savage orcs, but as good people who have lost their ways," Mr Orekh said.

But a pro-Kremlin spoof account, Barack Obmana on Twitter, derided it, saying "the opinion of paid US talking heads" mattered little to Russians.
Russia has consistently said the war in Ukraine was a "special operation" to protect Russian-speaking Ukrainians.

But in his video, Schwarzenegger said the Kremlin was lying to Russians when it said the invasion was intended to "denazify" Ukraine.
Ukraine did not start the war, but "those in power in the Kremlin" did, he said.

By 13:00 GMT the video had been viewed nearly 25m times and had been retweeted 325,000 times.

Yes, he is 100% going to leverage that and so is China (who has been stockpiling for 2 years). If we take Russia, China, and Ukraine out of the mix its almost 30% of global wheat production.

Worldwide Wheat Production

The global trade of wheat is greater than all other crops combined. In 2017, the total global production of wheat was 772 million tons. It is the second-most produced cereal grain behind maize. Based on 2017 data, the European Union is the largest producer of wheat, producing 150.2 million metric tons of wheat. China, India, and Russia, the three largest wheat producers, account for about 41% of the world’s total wheat production.

Here are the 10 countries with the most wheat production:

China (134.3 million metric tons)
India (98.5 million metric tons)
Russia (85.9 million metric tons)
United States (47.3 million metric tons)
France (36.9 million metric tons)
Australia (31.8 million metric tons)
Canada (30 million metric tons)
Pakistan (26.7 million metric tons)
Ukraine (26.2 million metric tons)
Germany (24.5 million metric tons)

Why would anyone that is discerning enough to see thru the MSM BS not do the same for any other web site? Claiming ZeroHedge is a Russian mouthpiece is just stupid. Claiming the MSM is pure as the driven snow is equally stupid. Use your brain and discern for yourself what is truth and what is not regardless of what web site it comes from.

As rumours of martial law spread across Russia in early March, some young men abruptly left their homeland, fearing they would be conscripted and sent to the battlefield in Ukraine.
They are among thousands of people who have fled Russia since February 24, as a crackdown grows on anti-war sentiment.
Ivan*, 17, flew to Turkey on Monday from Russia.

"I don't think it's normal that in the 21st century, a person can be taken against their will to serve in the army for an entire year. Right now conscripts are being sent to the front line, and I am categorically against the 'military operation' carried out by my country," he told Al Jazeera, ironically using the state-approved terminology for the war.

After initially insisting that only professional soldiers were fighting in Ukraine, Russia's defence ministry has since admitted conscripts have been deployed, with some captured or killed.

Russia has had a system of conscription since tsarist times, when recruits could be press-ganged into service for up to 15 years. But modern conscription dates back to the Soviet era.

Every able-bodied man aged 18-27, in theory, has to serve one year, and draft-dodgers face heavy fines and up to two years' imprisonment.
Students, convicts, and family members of killed soldiers are exempt, while single fathers and carers for disabled family members can have their service deferred.

And in practice, others have before been able to skip conscription. Those who had the means could avoid the draft by paying bribes, showing doctors' letters proving they were medically unfit, feigning insanity or falsifying university attendance.

Seems like what each country produces isn't as important as how much they export. The theory is you would only export that which you didn't need back home. Since Russia, US, Canada, France, and Ukraine are the top 5 exporters (with Germany at #7 and Poland at #10), the impact of the war (and sanctions) on wheat availability is going to be significant. If the war broadens to include Europe as a whole, then wheat exports are going to crater. That will broaden the problems this conflict is causing to a lot of countries around the world.

Can you explain to me--in coherent terms--why you are willing to start a nuclear war to prevent Russia from having too much political influence in Ukraine?

How many countries will you be okay with Putin taking before calling his bluff?

Given the reported performance of the Russian military in this instance, how many countries do you think they would be able to take?

I'm guessing none.

What is your answer?

Surely they don't launch and recover that thing by hand.

Trying to catch a flying Cuisinart is profoundly dumb. It could be he's getting ready to re-calibrate the magnetometers on board by doing the mag-cal dance. (It's pretty common and also a PITA.)

Its not a good deal. Though it's a deal that may need to be done. With an s400 Ukraine might be able to hit the Russian bombers that are launching missiles from inside Russia.  Also Turkey is in a key position on this with control of the straights.

Since no one did here are some from the other week (and I've read ZeroHedge for about a decade by the way):

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/praise-ukrainian-neo-nazi-battalion-given-green-light-facebook-intercept - there are Jews in Azov and Right Sektor (Jewish leadership and special Jewish RS patch) and I posted three times proof and info here. Jewish President Zelensky supports Azov as do other Jewish leaders in Ukraine . By the way, Ukraine is the only country in the world, besides Israel, to have had a Jewish president and prime minister at the same time. Funny how Tyler never mentioned that.

If you can't identify the Russian/Kremlin talking points in those three articles you must have very poor understanding of: this conflict, the history of both nations, Russian propaganda, and the politics behind it.

AND THIS IS NOT THREAD SLIDING AS THIS KIND OF BS IS ALREADY AFFECTING VOTES IN CONGRESS BY INFLUENCING REPRESENTATIVES NOT TO SUPPORT MILITARY AID UKRAINE AND TO FAVOR RUSSIA. AT LEAST FOUR "PATRIOT" CONSERVATIVE CONGRESSMAN VOTED THIS WAY YESTERDAY AND ALL/MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN GUESTS ON ALEX JONES, TUCKER CARLSON, ETC. AND THEY ALL POST NEWS FROM ALTERNATIVE RIGHT NEWS SITES WHICH HAVE BEEN USING RT NEWS FOR MANY DECADES. INFO WARS CONSTANTLY RUNS BULLSHIT "HISTORY" (DOUBLE VERIFIED LOL!) ARTICLES ON UKRAINE WHICH ARE BOGUS IF ONE HAS STUDIED UKRAINIAN HISTORY - THEY ARE GREAT AT TWISTING THE TRUTH AND LEAVING OUT FACTS. THE ONLY MOTIVE THAT SOME OF THESE WEBSITES HAVE TO RELENTLESSLY DEFEND RUSSIA IS THAT THEY ARE GETTING PAID TO DO SO AND THEY ARE NOT REAL CONSERVATIVES BUT GREAT SHOWMEN/ACTORS - JUST USING HONEYPOT TOPICS LIKE: 2A, PREPPER/SURVIVALIST INFO, ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE, GLOBALIST HISTORY, FREE SPEECH, AND OTHER TOPICS TO SUCK IN CONSERVATIVES.

Thoughts?

Hosts wear a 'Z' on their coats as they present the celebration event. The 'Z' has become a symbol of pro-Russian nationalism since Putin launched his brutal invasion, as it is painted on many of Moscow's military vehicles

Wow. I'm never would have thought it would have been so easy in 2022 to get a whole country brainwashed in a few weeks.

I know you can point to examples from covid and the summer of love, but this just seems on a whole different level since their "reality" is so far from the truth, and much more widespread it seems.

Wait, but I thought you didn't want to stand up to them and risk nuclear war?

With YOUR game plan they can take all the countries.

Which is it? Resist and risk nukes, or roll over and let them take what they want?

Remember he's already threatened nukes without even direct involvement from NATO.

I think it's actually pretty simple.  Putin fell into the dictator's trap - he surrounded himself with folks who only told him what he wanted to hear.  He was told that Ukrainian resistance would be minimal and that "we have only to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down".

Putin though this would be a repeat of Georgia, the Crimea, and the other "little adventures" that Russia has engaged in over the last couple of decades - the West would bitch and moan for a few weeks/months and then we'd forget.  What he totally missed is that the West figured out over the last year that we could finally finish the Russian problem if we just armed the Ukrainians and let nature take its course.  Now Russia literally has a tiger by the tail - they can't deal with the tiger and they sure as hell can't let go.

The problem is that objective reality cannot be ignored in the end.  And Russia is finding out that reality is one stone cold bitch.

What *no one* saw was the global cancellation of Russia as a country.  if you ahve told me 2 months ago that McDonalds, BP, Shell, Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, and pretty much every western company would just up and walk out of Russia I would have called you a loon.  But here we are . . .

Putin saw NONE of this - because he surrounded himself with people that were too frightened to tell him the truth.  He is now facing the consequences of the very system that he helped to create.

He is the living incarnation of Pahom from "How much Land Does a Man Need" by Leo Tolstoy -

"Six feet from his head to his heels was all he needed." - Link to the story.  It's worth a read . . .

Speaking of propaganda...

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping told his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden on Friday that conflicts and confrontations such as the events unfolding in Ukraine are in the interests of no-one, according to Chinese state media.

State-to-state relations cannot advance to the stage of confrontation, and conflicts and confrontations are not in the interests of anyone, Xi told Biden on a video call.

"The Ukraine crisis is something that we don't want to see," said Xi.

Xi said China and the United States must guide bilateral relations along the right track, and both sides should also shoulder due international responsibilities and make efforts for world peace.
