I'm guessing that they are far-sighted enough to have an ongoing fighter pilot training program in hopes that we would finally come to our senses and provide aircraft.  Why ask for over 100 birds if you aren't going to be able staff them.

i also don't to see what MEASURABLE difference any of those airframes would have made over the last 6 months at the cost of the build-up for the upcoming offensive.  for the cost of ONE F16 we could 'gift' Ukraine ~ 30+ Bradleys and 18+ M1s...   for the cost of ONE jet that might not last a week in combat

these high dollar aircraft are not the difference makers for this conflict.   what is 'not getting done' due to lack of aircraft??  we might as well say Ukraine needs more destroyers and subs.  just not the needed asset now.

Personally, I think a sub in the Black Sea would be useful.

The Ukrainians probably won't give a straight answer, for quite legitimate reasons.  You can almost hear the chaos this is wreaking on Russian defensive planning.  It is a good thing that the Russians have proven themselves masters of tactical improvisation, logistical mastery, and operational flexibility in this war, because otherwise, this would be really bad news for the Orcs.  Don't worry though, I'm sure that partial airspace denial will not affect their defensive posture in the least!

I have seen people doubling down on a statement. But to do it almost weekly for over a year? You have to have some major cognitive issues to keep up that line of thinking without any backup to your stance.

Wow! If the latest reports are accurate, the Russians have lost FOUR combat aircraft in the same action over RUSSIAN soil.

2x Mi-8 Hip helicopters
1x Su-34 Fullback strike fighter
1x Su-35 air dominance fighter (doesn't look very dominant, does it?)

If there was a ever a clue to the dumb fuck Russians that they are truly fucked and should immediately announce an end to the SMO, this would be it!

Not sure of accuracy, but interesting if true.

The aircraft received new avionics, radar, navigation, and communication systems, including a GPS satellite channel and an onboard computer with digital video and audio recorders for debriefing. The most significant change in the cockpit was a new onboard complex with a HUD display and a multi-function head indicator.

Also, the upgraded Polish MiGs gained the ability to use NATO aviation weapons, including compatibility with the US AGM-88 HARM high-velocity anti-radar missiles, AIM-9 short-range infrared homing air-to-air missiles, and early modifications of missiles from medium-range air-to-air class AIM-120 with a target engagement range of up to 70 km.

In addition, Polish upgraded MiG-29 fighters can use American JDAM and JDAM-ER-guided bombs. Earlier, 15 modernized MiG-29 fighters were deployed at the 23rd Minsk-Mazovetsky Air Base.

The Ukrainian military said weeks ago we would know if Patriot was in theater.

I am savoring the confusion right now.

It was previously known about the fall of two Mi-8 helicopters without ammunition, the crew died;
🔹It is also reported about the fall of two Su-34 and Su-35 fighters, the pilot and navigator of the Su-34 died, there is no data on the crew of the Su-35;
🔹 As a result of the fall of one Mi-8, a 51-year-old woman was injured - fragments of the blades fell into the courtyard of a private house;
🔹Regional and z-publics put forward three main versions of the crash:
- Helicopters and fighter jets were shot down by Ukrainian aircraft with Western medium-range missiles, for example, the American AIM-120, from the territory of the Chernihiv region;
- they were shot down by the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the help of American Patriot complexes;
- they were shot down by "Ukrainian saboteurs" from MANPADS;
- fighters and helicopters came under "friendly fire" of the Russian air defense;
- Technical problems were the cause of the accident.

🔹 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has not yet commented on the information about the number of downed vehicles and the condition of the pilots;
🔹The "Interception" plan has been introduced on the territory of the Klintsovsky district of the Bryansk region.

I'm leaning towards "B", with the news of the NATO decoy drone used in the Luhansk strike. It appears were are dialing up our EW games with them and screwing with their head.

Reports are saying both chopper crews completely killed, SU-34 Fullback full crew killed, and “no word” on the SU-35 crew.

These sound like the bigger AIM-120 hitting them unlike smaller manpad missiles giving them time to bail before aircraft breakup. Hopefully we hear of the SU-35 crews demise as well.

The experienced crews are more valuable than the actual airframes.

Probably just Patriot stretching its legs a little bit, but if the brits are handing out Storm Shadows, it isn't much of a stretch to imagine them giving Meteor as well.   I lean more towards Patriot though because even if those Polish MiG-29s can fire Meteor, the radars on those MiGs are probably insufficient to make full use of it unless they can shoot off link data from the Patriot radar.  Or maybe a Mk70 Expeditionary Launcher?  Four Mk41 VLS cells on a 40' shipping container, four SM6 missiles, four kills?  I can dream, right?

4 Air Russian air assets lost ... awesome sauce ...

I mean ... it just shows truly how ineffective Russia is ... they can't even defend their own airspace

Their sole effectiveness early in the war was the large numbers thrown at the conflict ...

There is video of one of the helicopters getting hit. It’s not as big an explosion as I’d believe a Patriot missile would be but looked bigger than any of the Stinger/Igla hits I’ve seen. It would be fun to think a Mig or SU27 shot it down but I am thinking they pushed a NASAMS super close and hit it with a AIM-120 from the ground.

https://airrecognition.com/index.php/news/defense-aviation-news/2022-news-aviation-aerospace/october/8759-russia-deploys-mi-8-mtpr-1-electronic-warfare-helicopters-to-jam-ukrainian-air-defence.html

The Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopter is an upgraded model of the usual Mi-8MTV-5-1 outfitted with the Reichg-AV EW system. The use of this helicopter in the Ukraine war was recently confirmed by a photo issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

In this way, it provides protection for a group of friendly strike aircraft, helicopters, or drones. The system can also jam the radars of enemy aircraft, thereby offering protection not only for friendly air assets but also helping to defend friendly ground troops that might otherwise come under air attack under some scenarios.

The Rychag-AV (Aviatsyonnyi Vertolotnyi, airborne for helicopter; Rychag-AVE is a derivative for export) EW system suppresses enemy surface-to-air missile (SAM) system fire-control radars by jamming them.

makes sense why they wacked them.

Makes sense why those choppers were circling the cities they were over.

Surprise cock fags, your stuff doesn’t work.

Those choppers were likely trying to protect the strike aircraft that were also killed.

Who says they cannot man them, or maintain them?  One would have to believe Ukrainians are dumb.  They are not and fly far more sophisticated military aircraft than most nations you'll find at the U.N.

I'd bet the mind games going on with their pilots is off the charts now.

Also aim-120 switches to passive "home in on Jamming" when it senses it is being jammed, and follows it in to the source so it makes since that it was an Aim-120

Yup, in one fell swoop, Ukraine took out Russia's most advanced strike fighter, its most advanced fighter escort and their SEAD assets. What an utterly humiliating moment this must be for them.

If it was BOTH, that indicates lack of maintenance/spare parts is really reaching critical levels, or the Ukrainians have moved a Patriot battery to somewhere within the vicinity. Even in Russia, it is a bit unusual for multiple aircraft to start falling from the sky at the same time.

Or a manpad or three have been smuggled into Russia by Ukrainian patriots....
