I watched the St. Jude zoom with the children patients. Halley "Nova" is by far the star of the show and is a great person to be doing their outreach. They chose well if she is sweet as her smile and enthusiasm would lead you to believe. She actually spoke to some of her patients.
I wonder if they have spoken with ISS crew? Is this the most number of humans in orbit at one time, ever? |

All the website hits come back with 13, but they're all old. China is opaque about exactly what they're doing; but the expectation was - and I think it happened - that Inspiration4 would launch before the Chinese returned. |

Beats me, but I do most everything I can in metric - it's just easier. I suppose spending my entire career in engineering electronic design makes it easier for me. I also cook recipes almost entirely in metric measurements for the same reason. |

Because you have to stick with one system of measurement to reduce the chance of mistakes. In dynamics the metric system is much more intuitive to use and what they are probably using. The current splashdown is scheduled for 7:06 PM EDT. While not official, it looks like the Cape Canaveral splashdown zone will be used.
SpaceX livestream coverage should start a little after 600 PM EDT.  Watching Inspiration 4 Re-entry and Splashdown LIVE! or spacex.com and follow the links. De-orbit/splashdown events are as follows (times EDT) 6:11 PM Trunk jettison 6:16 PM De-orbit burn start 6:31 PM De-orbit burn end 6:35 PM Nosecone closed 7:02 PM Drogue parachutes deploy 7:03 PM Main parachutes deploy 7:06 PM Splashdown I may not be able to create a map showing the re-entry (plasma) phase but I would estimate it roughly on a line from Port Charlotte (just north of Fort Myers) to Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Florida. The sun will still be up about five degrees above the horizon so I have no idea if re-entry will be visible but I would look anyway. Based upon commentary the plasma portion is around 653-700 PM EDT. If you are in the Fort Myers area, I would probably lie flat, look straight up. The capsule will be traveling from southwest to northeast. Scan a little along the path and perpendicular. Binoculars may help but they also limit your viewing area. If there is a sonic boom associated with re-entry that may be when the capsule goes subsonic. If that occurs over water then people around KSC and possibly north may have a chance to hear it. Splashdown may be close enough to shore to see the parachutes with binoculars. Elevation above the horizon is unknown but I would scan from the horizon and up. If anyone observes re-entry, hears a sonic boom or can see the parachutes, please report back with your location, the time of observation and other relevant details. |

Chokey, thanks for the maps. I was close...which is not surprising considering my overall wonderfulness.
Does anyone have a good idea of the portion of that track that will be the plasma ("burning") phase? That may be over by Orlando but that is just a guess. If there are a few time hacks along the way that would help as well. |

I told him to make sure he didn’t screw up the metric vs standard measurements. I didn’t want to see Bob and Doug die because he used inches instead of cm. |
