I wasn't in Cal in the early 80s, but the Shasta commercials were. Shasta soda was made in La Mirada but named after Mt Shasta (a big Volcano) and the Shasta Reservoir, big features at the northern end of the San Joaquin Valley. So here's a couple of tunes from that ad campaign:

In 1974, while walking across San Francisco, I came upon a free show at The Japan Trade Center in the Filmore District. This was a concert being put on by Ondekoza, a Taiko drum ensemble based in Japan. I have never seen a Taiko drum group, and this was one of the most memorable shows I'd seen. I even bought an Ondekoza T-shirt.
