View Quote The philosophy that I apply to every data project is that things that are true remain consistent from any angle and at any level of detail. Things that are mistaken or fraudulent will often fall apart when you look at them from a different angle. By supplying enough voting data to the general public we could find the fakery because it wouldn't hold up when people looked at it in a variety of ways. It seems to me that it wouldn't be difficult to export a summary of the data from each voting machine for each hour or fifteen minutes or whatever period based on the volume of votes. This would be anonymized in that there would be no names or signatures or timestamps of individual ballots, so you could release the data to the public with no danger of someone using it to figure out an individual's votes. If the smallest chunk is fifteen minutes you would also release stats for each hour, shift, and day. Or aggregated for all polling machines in a given location by hour or whatever. This would just be a convenience. People could put the data together in whichever way was useful if the official site didn't happen to do it. The summary would include the number of votes for each candidate and initiative, but also for each combination of candidates and initiatives. So for instance if three people voted for all of the Democrats but skipped the nonpartisan choices like judges you'd know that fact. And you'd know how many people voted just for Biden and nothing else, and so on. The summary would also include stats on the times between ballots for that period. Suppose it's typically 3-6 minutes between ballots. If you see 20 ballots added at five second intervals that looks pretty suspicious if it's supposed to be citizens voting. Maybe it would be fine if it's a poll worker scanning mailed in ballots. But you'd know which case it was supposed to be. Without noting the timing all you'd see is more votes in the totals (let's face it, more votes for Biden) with less evidence of something fishy. Given this summary data, in a form that was consistent across the country, interested citizens could look for suspicious activity. If 95% of the time one hour's voting at a given polling location runs 38% to 52% for Trump, then in the last hour of election day it's 90% Biden, it would at least be worth looking into that further. There's a lot of more detailed information available to election officials like the scans of each ballot as it's read by the machine, plus surveillance footage. There would still be ways to steal the vote by faking this aggregated data. It's just that it would be harder. The thieves would have to fill out fake ballots more completely rather than just choosing Biden. They'd have to vary the timing of fake ballots and sneak them in at random over the course of several hours, hiding them among real ballots. They might need to recruit more thieves working different shifts or at different polling locations to make the fakery less obvious, thus increasing the chances that someone will talk. This approach would also allow the public to learn about the vagaries of randomness and how they shouldn't jump to conclusions based on some anecdotal event. For instance maybe it's not really that strange to have an hour's worth of votes in Detroit that went 95% to Biden. Right now I couldn't tell you whether that's a huge red flag or just Democrat voters being their usual idiot selves. We'd get all of this transparency and make the thieves' lives harder and more dangerous without compromising the anonymity of people's votes. |

So until HI (I assume) closes we know nothing and no one knows how "short" they are in getting their guy elected. As a bonus, that would shut up the newscasters. |

Yeah, I would prefer to have ballot-by-ballot anonymized data but I put in the 15 minute to one hour aggregation so that it would be nearly impossible to tie someone's name to their ballot if one was present at the polling location or had access to surveillance footage. Maybe that wouldn't be a big deal, though. I agree with not accumulating or releasing any data until the polls close. Nobody from election officials to the news media to regular people needs to know any of that data moment by moment. People just need to vote and count the votes. We need the breakdowns by time or individual ballot only after the election to look for fraud. |
