Meh. Waiting for the new one that includes sockets.

Meh. I bought some sort of stubby ratchet on Amazon that takes bits as well, and it was less than $10. I already have plenty of bits from Stanley, DeWalt, Black & Decker, etc.
Each to his own, I guess. |

Cool set, bought one, but needs basic sockets. I seldom use mine. Gearwrench micro set with bits and sockets gets used a lot.

You can get this Wiha for 30 bucksish.

View Quote No, but the ratchet is very similar. Mine came with a strip of 9 bits - 3 slotted, 3 Phillips, 3 Torx. IIRC, it was $7.99. |

View Quote Lowes sells this one too. 24.95 is a great price for the HF. |

Used mine again today to change a MAF sensor.
The security bits supplied with the kit are limited, but I had the right size from a separate bit set. WTF does Ford need to put security screws on a MAF sensor ??? |

View Quote Wiha has outsourced most of their hand tools. Those and many of their pliers are now made in vietnam. I’d go with the HF and get a better ratchet before the wiha |
|
|
View Quote I have both. The Wiha is nice but does not have a locking swivel head and the extension on the Icon is longer. |

View Quote Yep... I had a specific need for one when working on a Honda CTX a few weeks ago, and this one was the ticket. The location of the fastener precluded using anything else. It's an inexpensive set, but it did the job perfectly. |

The locking flex head is a huge improvement over a straight ratchet. It's silly to pretend they are the same in terms of usefulness.

View Quote Mine got double duty changing an evaporator core under the dash of a Honda Odyssey. That locking flex head saved a lot of frustration. The 1/4" adapter and 1/4" wobble head extensions took about an hour off the job, I don't think the ratchet was used in the straight position once. |

Too bad it’s in store only as I won’t be going anywhere with a HF before the sale ends.

I keep one of these kits in each vehicle. Covers Imperial and Metric for $21. Only thing I added was a set of 6" Channellocks. |

In-store only - heading out to grab it this morning for today's engine project.

I scored the GearWrench one for $15 when they closed them out for a $62 “upgraded” set that added an extension.
The HF set is sill pricey if you as me as no name set are $15 and under. |

Bought a small 1/4" hex ratchet from Radio Shack many years ago. Perfect for electronics work and it's still going strong.
Stars and Stripes Tool comes to one of the motorcycle events I attend and has been doing so since the mid 90s. (The outfit occasionally sold Craftsman tools way back when, and my two most prized/frequently used socket sets were bought from them at the event in '97.) They usually feature a wide variety of 1/4" hex bits and drive tools at their show tables, and every year I find something else I don't have yet. Couple years back I got another small ratchet from them, which - unlike the R/S unit - has a direction switch. (RadShack is a pass-through holder design. Pull the bit and flip the ratchet 180 degrees then reinstall to change direction.) Another poster mentioned security bits. SAS carries a largish set in a blow molded case. The contents are routinely called into service on a lot of different projects - mechanical and electronic alike. Also have a collection of gunsmithing hex drive stuff which sees regular use. Most people think of 1/4" hex drive tools in terms of a few sizes of Phillips, slotted blade and hex bits. If I laid out and tallied all the bits I have, I'd wager there are more unique items in my inventory than there are different sizes of sockets in my main rollaway. And that doesn't get into drive tools or extension types. Collectively, those tools have saved my a$$ more times that I can count. Due to this thread I see another ratchet I must have. ETA: Found a new VIM 1/4 flex head and dual (1/4 - 10mm) ratchet/extension/adapter combo for roughly half of what the vintage tool crowd is paying for a 1/4 Craftsman square drive flex-head ratchet. GD done co$t me again... |

fyi i asked about rain checks on it as my store only had a handful. no joy.

McGuyver tool kit. Adaptable to most anything, with the t handle, flex and end extension.
Box is Solid. Faucom sells the same set for more. A product of Stanley Black and Decker consortium. Any HF insiders have info on the expanded set release date??? Would make a good wife household kit too. |

A bunch available at my store when I was there a little bit ago. The pictures don't do it justice just how tiny this kit is.

Local store this morning was still 39.99?
Did you guys have to tell them anything to get to 24.99? Even asked one of the workers and he said it only applied to strictly the Icon ratchets by themselves? |

One kit and one Apache 1800 case later. Had to send them looking for the ratchet set. |

Got one yesterday when I was in there to buy a roller magnet. Remembered someone posted this deal, and I got lucky and they had one left on the shelf. Damn handy little set, I love the serrated ring on the back that you can turn the drive when the friction gets loose enough to not engage the ratchet teeth anymore.

But how do the bits hold up to normal use?
|
|
|
I got the VIM model of that ratchet in the mail today along with a dual flex head ratchet (1/4" and 10mm with 1/4 and 3/8 drive adapters).
You aren't busting lug nuts loose with either but I can see a few applications where you absolutely need the compactness and flexibility of those ratchets. |

Only things I saw out of stock were ammo cans, and the cheap magnetic parts trays. |
