We have a camping trip planned and will be on a float trip during the eclipse in our kayaks on the Courtois river near Cuba Missouri right in the full eclipse area.  It is also our 36th wedding anniversary that day!

Was going to drive to Columbia SC, but ~3 hours each way in the car with the kids for a 2.5 minute event might make us WISH it was the end of the world.

So we got tickets to the local planetarium for their event.  We'll have 90% coverage where we'll be.

I will be in North Carolina to watch it. Is it worth it to drive a bit farther West to see it in totality? If I stay at the farm it will only be 94%.

I took the whole week off.

I haven't decided if I'll be in St. Clair, DeSoto, or St Francois state park yet.

I live in Ofallon, so I'm not going to travel far

Youtube probably.

Saw one that went pretty much directly over my head when i was a kid and it was no doubt cool as shit. But im not driving a couple hundred miles to get cocked blocked by clouds.

That said. If I have my son that day and he was into this kinda shit I would so drive to make sure he gets to see one.

I guess my locale is the best in the country for viewing. So... Outside?

ETA - We are one second less than the best possible location for totality. So still basically the best location.

I'm right in the path for total eclipse!  I plan to be sitting in my boat on the lake.  They are calling for like half a million people to pour into our area for the event

No kidding. I will be in the Madras area at vacation property and it is going to be stupid. I'm bringing everything I need and planning extra time. I'm praying there won't be a wild fire.

Have a 38 gallon tank on my F150, so I should be good to go. I wI'll top it off ever chance I get though.

Supposedly, there's a big eclipse watch party just north of me in St. Joe, MO. After seeing one when I was in elementary school during the 1980s, I'll be damned if I'm going to take time out or make a special trip to see another.

What you saw was a partial eclipse.  It doesn't hold a candle to seeing a total solar eclipse.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, you shouldn't miss it, especially if you're already right on the centerline.

You don't need them just to be outside, it's not going to be any brighter than usual.  But an 88% eclipse is only interesting if you look directly at it, and you need the glasses to look at anything less than 99%.

So do you need eclipse glasses if you're not in the projected path for 100% coverage?  I'll be at 88% where I'm at.  Do you only need the glasses if you're directly looking at the sun?  Or do you need them to be outside?

I'm clueless when it comes to this shit.

You need to use the glasses/filters any time it's less than 100%, or any time not during totality in other words.

Southern Idaho. Exactly where is yet to be determined.

Oregon is going to be packed and no way I'm going to fuck with the cluster fuck that Wyoming will be. Way too many tourist attractions.

Not many people are going to drive, watch it, stop for a meal, and drive back. They're going to test out the spending limit on their Discover cards. Spend a couple of days in the Grand Tetons or Yellowstone before the eclipse.

I have no desire to spend extra time with all the chuckleheads that are going to pile into the path of the eclipse.

Uhhh, only the ominous one that is a "sign" as it is the first eclipse to pass over the whole North American continent in a long time, a bad omen for the U.S. which is a precursor sign to the September 23, 2017 star and planetary alignment in the heavens signifying the end of the world!  Not to mention the 4 blood moons that also have occurred. So many signs in the heavens this year.

In the path of totality, 6/10ths of a mile south of Smith's Ferry,Idaho and east about 6 miles up on a peak.
I have been told I am working that day, to try and help with some semblance of order.

Would rather go hide, but for what they are paying me, I will work!

Don't forget they'll probably only have 2 gas attendants going around yelling at people trying to pump their own gas while going as slow as possible.

it will be. I guarantee it. I'm going the day before and not leaving Oregon until the day after for a reason. Even still, probably better to come home a route that doesn't go through I5 by jblm/Tacoma, it will be a parking lot for sure.
