I just bought a small pop-up three weeks ago and have the tongue lock. I bought a Samsung HD camera to cover it just today.
I'm thinking of running some big-ass chain through the wheels now. Stories like this one upset a paranoid like me to no end. I might have to take my meds early today. PS: Fuck thieves. Why America puts up with them is beyond me. |

We live in a nice, middle/upper class gated community. We really have no crime to speak of other than a few speeders. In other words, your neighborhood is a perfect target for thieves - All the residents think they're perfectly safe, and are oblivious to what's happening. Yep. Crime reports vs. actual crime are an issue too. HOAers seem to not like to report crimes for fear of it hurting value... Gated communities scream out to thieves "hey, I'm rich, take my stuff". If you're going to go gated HOA, keep your head on a swivel, you've made yourself a bigger target... |

Any word from the HOA? I bet they forgot you paid the storage fee and dumped it.

HOA has a problem. They were charging you so they need to pay up. View Quote The place I store my boat requires me to carry my own insurance. If they didn't, you could be certain that the price of storing it would go up by at least the cost of insurance. I doubt the HOA is insuring his property against theft at $10 per month and there is a pretty good chance OP signed a storage contract stating as much unless they are total idiots. I guess we'll find out. |

I hate fucking thieves. Several years ago I was installing tile in the laundry room. Stuck the washer and dryer out on the side porch. At the time this house was at least 100 yards from the road. Left for 10 minutes max to grab a coke at the local gas stop. Came back and they were gone. I was so fucking pissed I went and bought another set and put them on the porch, hid my truck and watched from the darkness of my garage for them to try again. Did this for several days and no takers. Fuckin bastards.

Besides the couple lock, the storage unit owner sets in a really thick chain into the ground with concrete. We loop that through the trailer frame, but an angle grinder would probably make short work of that too. Good thing is that he lives on property and hasn't had anything stolen in many, many years. |

I was very close to buying a GPS tracker to put on my trailer. 7x18 cargo trailer packed full of quality audio and music gear. Real high dollar shit.
We parked it in a pasture at a trusted friends house under watch of a couple of cameras down a long road nobody had any business being on. Had it locked with a tongue lock and chains on the wheels when it was parked for extended periods. Overall it was pretty safe and I never had an issue over 2 years of leaving it there. I looked into the GPS thing and it would have been easy to do. I could have wired in a battery to the electrical system and hooked up solar to keep it charged or charge it off the wall or off the bus it was normally hooked to since the bus was plugged into the wall while sitting to keep everything charged. You can program the GPS software to alert you on motion so it would email me when it moved and I could track it as long as the battery held out. |

I had to store my trailer and was worried so I remove the lug nuts. Thankfully no one bothered it.

Anyhow, I'm in the area. If you post a description of it, I'll make sure to keep an eye out. I've got a dashcam, so if I happen to see it drive by I'll be able to review footage. With a cordless angle grinder a thief can steal anything, doesn't matter what kind of lock you put on it. The only thing you can hope to do is slow them down/inconvenience them enough that they don't want to take the time to steal your junk and will go after someone else's stuff that is easier and faster to take.
