Finally had some earlier this year. It is literally unobtainum in AZ. My buddy did get a bottle finally here, but it is hard to repeat that. You have a better chance of getting GTS here than 107. On that note i came about 15 min from getting a bottle of CYPB today.. mountain town liquor store got one.. it got gone between me hearing about it and getting to the store 25 min away. |

They're usually just trying to attach a name to get sales on a mediocre product, and in this case it's just a blend of different whiskies. Heaven's Door though has been the one exception for me. |

Weller special reserve is the drink of the evening. Three cubes in a 10 oz rocks glass, (it's very swarmy here, otherwise it would be two), then 3/4 fill with the Weller. Sweet carmely flavor? Excellent.

But when it is hot as eight shades of hell and I've been dripping sweat all day a nice cold glass of bourbon with some ice is a mighty fine drink. And nobody will ever convince me otherwise. |

Don’t get me wrong, I know the enthusiast that wants to play weekend connoisseur only wants to drink his whisky neat out of a glencairn but honestly. Sometimes you want some ice, helps mellow it out and makes it refreshing. If I’m drinking a 100-200 dollar bottle, I’ll usually enjoy it neat. But if I’m drinking a 20-40 dollar bottle, I have no shame throwing some cubes in the glass to take the harshness out some of the affordable bottles. There’s more than one way to enjoy a drink and it’s that persons money, so who cares.
My friends will do shots of 250 dollar cognac and I’ve even seen them mix it with coke. I personally wouldn’t mix a Martel xo in coke but if that’s how they want to do it. Not my problem. |

Have you never enjoyed a mixed drink made with bourbon? If not, you are missing out imo. Bourbon doesn’t HAVE to be neat to be enjoyed. Sure, if you are drinking tier one stuff and you want the full flavor neat is the way to go. As a matter of fact, cask strength neat is my preference in that case. I want it before the distiller/bottler has added any water to it. You know they do that, right? I have to assume that you consider anything less than cask strength has been ruined? |

We just picked up a bottle of "JD Single Barrel Personal Collection" that has a metal "Washington Capitals" badge on it (a neat little badge with a chain on the neck of the bottle), and an additional label on the box - those are the only indicators of it being a "Personal Collection" expression, which is basically when an entity taste chooses a specific barrel from the "only 1 in 100" barrels rule that meets the JD requirement for being a Single Barrel expression. The the barrel then gets bottled as the personal collection. I think most anyone can do it if ya want to shell out the $$$ for an entire barrel.
I was doing a little digging on it, and it looks like Caps alum Alan May went to JD and taste picked the specific barrel. linky I have no idea what flavor profiles Alan May prefers, but I'm really looking forward to trying it, as I'm a JD SB junky. |
