The USAF has a bunch of random patches worn by guys in weird niches, and most of those have little to no history.

Army division patches are worn by 10s of thousands of men at any given point in time, and those patches have been present for some serious history.

Of the remaining active divisions, 1st ID, 1st CD, and 101st ABN have the most iconic patches.

25th ID and 2nd ID have the worst.

4th ID, 10th MTN, and 82nd ABN are good.

3rd ID is relatively forgettable, and the armor patches are kind of disappointing given that they just re-used the same thing and changed the number.

My Dad was a Korean War Veteran.  He hated, Hated, HATED the 1st CAV Div.

In addition to the quote above, he called them the "Chinks Quartermasters" because they would bug-out from their positions so quick.  He said the Chinese would attack the 1st CAV as a resupply method.

He told me you knew that the 1st CAV had departed the battlefield because the Chinese would begin to shell his position using captured artillery that the 1st CAV had left behind.

My Dad was 2ID.  30 years later i would wear the same patch.

We had this patch made up for our flight suits...

Well I did wear a Stetson in the three Cavalry Regiments I served in, none of which where ever part of the 1st CAV Div.

I personally have no aversion to the 1st CAV Div, but I always wondered how I would feel if orders came down to assign me to it.

But also note that out of respect to my Dad there is no "horse blanket" patch being worn in that avatar.

I wonder if my 1SG can authorize a unit patch change.

That’s hardcore, I was a short timer. Did Iraq 07-08 with HHC I in S6 but got passed around everywhere. Was at some patrol base called whiskey one and we built a COP called Meade. Went to Afghanistan in 10, with Dragon on a ABP compound near Orgun-e. First guy to go home no stop loss in 1-187.
