There's got to be someone around here that rates the 1st or 2nd MarDiv patch as their combat patch.

I think there was a brouhaha about it with senior Army leadership and they stopped letting them wear them, but I remember seeing a bunch of soldiers wearing one of those 2 patches in Iraq as their combat patch.

There was a policy change about the time I separated so I’d have to check 670 or HR but I saw quite a few ARNG guys wearing one, a few of whom never served a day in the USMC.

I've never been attached to an Army unit.

The prior Army guys that switch over are pleasantly surprised they can wear their combat patches with us.  We appreciate their experience,  usually.

Whe I ordered these, a Rip it can was an option.  But only us old farts know what they are and the full size can just didn't look right.  The AF did away with Rip its in the DFACs awhile ago.

The Bangs were more recognizable by the kids.

It was supposed to be 4th ID, but Turkey finally said "No" and we got pushed back and sent in with the Thunderchickens instead. April '03 - April '04.

It's weird, but the 416th subdued patch is the "reverse" of the full color patch.

OIF1 101AA with no air assault badge-I did mine WWII style with a parachute badge
For Afghanistan 2011-I was “supposed “ to wear the 26th Yankee DIV ssi (mass hole -Massachusetts national guard) but I was an individual augmentee as “the highest ranking Texan in the Iowa guard” filling a brigade surgeon slot in a clusterfucked Maneuver enhancement brigade- my tour was almost over by the time they left CONUS.

We had quite a few Army and National Guard units attached to both the 1st and 2nd MarDivisions.  A brigade out of Pennsylvania in Ramadi and a brigade out of Mississippi in Kalsu. Stryker BN in Rawah, an Armored BN in Hit, and a few others. Those were the ones I saw wearing the Marine patch.

None.  Spent Desert Storm in the ROK.  Saw plenty of combat patches and ribbons from that operation on my friend's Class A's.

I earned what I got and so did they, no stolen valor here.

You and me, brother.  I have 21 combat patrols between recon and ambush, 2 strolls through mine fields and one international incident in the MAC building, but no patch.

I forget how much joint service stuff happens until I see someone wearing an Air Force achievement medal or joint comm medal without a USAF GCM or something.
I think some CA ARNG units were training at Pendleton back in the 90s. Looks like 2022 is no different https://www.dvidshub.net/image/7368423/marines-and-army-national-guard-join-forces-northern-strikeAttachment Attached File

OIF 2003-2004; 2006-2007

Technically have a bunch others due to being attached to:
1st MEF
108th ADA brigade
3rd ID
1st AD
2ID
25th ID
89th MP brigade

I  lost count and care with us being whored out to every active duty body. So I mostly keep the 53rd patch since it's unique and few have it unlike the angry vagina and the broken tv.

Since only a little over a thousand living people can wear the 8th ID as a combat patch, that is the one I wear.

Cool. My grandfather was in the 8th infantry. I don't believe he's one of those 1000 men tho.

What's the story behind that?

Marine deployment patches aren't technically authorized for prior service Marines who transfer to the army either, but that is collectively ignored and deployed prior Marine I know wears them anyway, myself included.
