The Aeron headrest is a clamp-on option.  It works just fine.

I've only ever seen aftermarket ones, which I'm not necessarily opposed to. I've just never bothered ordering one.

I have a Steelcase Criterion. If you happen to live in San Antonio these guys have used tier one chairs all the time for <10% of new.

i have the one that was designed and made by former HM engineers.  Specifically, I have the mesh version, but they make a padded model as well.  Spendy, but I love it.

The only thing I don't like about the Aeron is it's lack of headrest. I kinda want to try out the Vantum.

Why? Besides being comfortable, at least in my opinion, they're built like tanks. The warranty is 12 years and it'll likely last even longer than that. It's relatively pricey up front, but if ends up being the last office chair you ever buy, it'll pay for itself over time. It's not like it's $20,000 unobtanium.

I thought the best ones were strap-on?

Another vote for SecretLab.

Best chair I've ever had for this type of use.

Strap-on, clamp-on...  As long as it gives good head!

This. You don't want to plop down on your $50 Walmart special chair, have the gas cylinder fail and try to impale you in the Biden.

The gas cylindered failed in mine pretty quick.  I surrounded it with a piece of PVC pipe cut to the right length.  I don't need variable height anyway.

Everyone will say Herman Miller or Steelcase. I don't have either. But that's what they'll say.

My home is my office.  I bought a black Steelcase Leap V2 with headrest new from Amazon.  It’s a great chair with lots of adjustment.  If I were in the market for a new chair, I’d buy refurbished and save half.

That said, the best thing I did was get a standing desk for my office.

I've spent years of my life in Aerons.  I love them.

Not impressed with my AKRacing or Secretlab Titan.

I spoke to our project mgmt team at work and they had an extra steelcase amia chair. Saved me a lot of money. Feels really good.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I’ve tried quite a few, and I believe Humanscale makes the best office chairs. The Liberty is my favorite. Made in the US and great customer service.

Work just bought the whole place HM Mirra 2 chairs.
They're pretty nice, and they don't store farts since they have mesh bottoms.

Sitting on a refurbished frankin Aeron right now.  Lots of the Tech startups in Texas rented them.  When the startup dies, they would get refurbished and rented out again.  It is a Frankin chair, as the referb usually involves cannibalizing some to get the rest ready to rent again.  I forget, but I think mine cost about $350.  One of the better purchases I have made - abet I think MSRP is closer to $1500.

I really don't have much of a problem that dozen's of asses probably sat in it before me.  I got mine at the beginning of Covid - I am sure supplies dwindled as people started working from home - and it is unlikely those sold will be returning to the rental pools.  There was probably a glut in the repo market when I got mine.
