Further, you can see the movie ratings drop or rise in real time as the word gets out what side it's on.

You can spin that any way you like.

There’s no need to spin anything.  The ratings are what they are and are formed based on the opinions of all different kinds of people.

You complain about liberals voting movies up or down based on their political beliefs.

There’s a flip side to that coin.

Conservatives are voting movies up or down based on their political beliefs as well.

When you take into account hundreds of thousands of people are voting on these movies it more or less even outs.   And even if it didn't, it might change the ratings a little bit, but it’s not going to be the difference between a 6/10 and an 8/10.

Please, stop that. IMDB ratings are a popularity contest, not a measure of quality....unless your contention is that everyone who rates movies on one particular website has impeccable and non-subjective taste, and since you think Platoon is the greatest war movie ever, that invalidates that possibility.

Where exactly did I say that?

As for imdb.com, the ratings are accumulated based on the opinions of hundreds of thousands of all different kinds of people which seems to me to be a much better way to judge how good a movie is rather than one man's personal opinion.

But hey, I guess since the movie watching public has a different personal opinion about a movie than you do their opinion is invalid, right?

Not a measure of quality, huh?  Could have fooled me.

Well at least you dropped your “IMDB ratings are done by a bunch of left wing wankers” argument.

I'm more than happy to drop it.  However, if someone is going to keep posting comments directed at me in a thread I frequent then i am going to respond (especially if they claim i said something I never said).

I posted that 'Platoon' was now available on netlfix streaming and added my personal opinion that it was one of the best war movies of all time.  Then you and a few others wanted to play the “this war movie is better than Platoon” game because it was so “easy.”

Like I said earlier: everyone has a different opinion when it comes to movies. Someone could say “In The Army Now” was the best war movie of all time and they wouldn't technically be wrong. IMDB is the best way to determine how good a movie is according to the movie watching public rather than just one man's personal opinion.

As I said in my previous post: I'm more than happy to drop it. However, if someone is going to keep posting comments directed at me in a thread I frequent then i am going to respond (especially if they claim i said something I never said).

If I'm trying to find something to watch and nothing really jumps out at me 'Archer' is my go to TV show and 'Tucker & Dale' is my go to movie.

I've watched some scenes of that movie at least 20 times.

And here's another excuse to post this

There should be two ratings.  Quality of production and how much you liked it.  Platoon: High production value but unteachable.  Heartbreak Ridge:  Low production value but enjoyable.

ETA:  Perl Harbor could be substituted for Platoon seeing how there is some debate.

Growing up, whenever I was spending a Sunday in the house, I'd watch westerns all day (maybe toss in a Rocky flick, or an all day war movie marathon.) I got nostalgic and watched Once Upon a Time in the West today for the hundredth time. It's still awesome.

Been on a big horror/suspense kick lately.

"The Frozen" -  I thought it was good.  Pretty good plot twist.  Not much violence/gore, just decent story line/suspense.

"Amber Lake" - Still not sure what to make of this one.  It was good, I just mean the characters were all over the place and while I get the main story, I think there were things intended that maybe I didn't pick up on.  Overall a pretty good one as well, but another low budget/indie type movie.

If you haven't seen the six part extended version it's even better than the original release of the three movies.

Pretty good, IMO.

The remake wasn't bad either.

Wish they would have gotten a different actress for the lead though.
