Agreed. I regret all of mine. As a fine artist now, I see there are much better and safer ways to express how I'm feeling. I was in a dark place then. I've been new tattoo free for 10 years with zero plans of ever getting another.

I suffered from very very serious depression and self hatred. I was borderline suicidal. My past isn't something anyone would want to here about, especially since I'm a female. Being introduced to firearms and being taught how to use them literally saved my life. I was able to escape.

I speak as an inky with two quite visible pieces...not gonna lie that’s a pretty tacky design. I’d personally get something more stylized. That sort of bland not-quite-photorealistic realism will probably age poorly.

The examples below are what I mean by “stylized.” I’m not saying you should get anything like these; they’re just examples of stylized crusader themed tats.

Maybe try to find some 15th century art depicting a crusader and work off of that.

I have very large prominent face tattoos, I have worked as a tattoo artist and in the medical field. I strongly feel that there is a self worth/image component to this psychologically. I have suffered abuse all my life, and had very little self esteem and worth. I used tattoos as a societally acceptable form of self mutilation and pain. Cutting was unacceptable.  I later started running piercing needles through my lips and cheeks, and from there began breaking my own bones. I'm now left with the reminder of my pain as tattoos and scars. I hate them and wish I could afford to remove the ones in my face more than anything. I'm happily married working as a fine artist and show my work in galleries in Tampa and Orlando.

I'm still working on the rough design for my first tattoo. Been thinking about it for a few months now... Not sure where it will be put. But I plan on it not being visible at work, not that they take issues with that.

Tats of any kind definitely have a negative connotation. There is no question they will be an obstacle to achievement and acceptance in the professional world outside the trades. I dont care how much money they cost, or how much effort went into them, a large segment of society (the segment with most of the money and power) view them as trashy. Like owning a pitbull trashy. It is what it is.

In my experience, it's generally trashy people that want to engage in tattoo talk, but it does happen. I've never once engaged anyone in it because I don't care about others ink. That said, it's no different than trashy people talking to you about your truck; Fudds talking to open carry Fudds, etc. You just smile, say have a good day, and move on.

What do you guys think of something like this? Planning putting something like this on my forearm. Not this one specifically but something similar.

I'm not an inkie, not because I'm against it but because I've never had anything meaningful enough to have permanently put on my body.

These tattoos are done in Jerusalem by a tattoo shop that has been open for literally hundreds of years. The wooden object next to them has been used to tattoo pilgrims to the Holy Land in that time period. It seems pretty cool to get the same tattoo that people hundreds of years ago did.

Just for reference really, it'll be more photorealistic, with more destruction of the walls of Jerusalem in the background, with more muslims being sacked and things of that nature

I'd venture a guess that you're not a believer so I imagine this is wasted on you, but the pharisees did quite the opposite; they tried to trap Christ in the minutia of Levitical law and he reprimanded them in no uncertain terms for it.

So, in context of the argument here, I guess you believe Jesus would look at that tattoo and say "Yep. That seems like a great way to spend your money and bring more people to God. I'd have done the same thing if I had access to a quality tattoo artist."
