That would have been a hard hit. The S-92 frame (chassis?) is probably bent. This won't be a matter of replacing a few (or rather a lot) bolt on parts....

I see the problem. The helicopter didn't have any main rotor blades. It couldn't blade at 45. That would have solved everything.
I don't have time to explain it with MSPaint. |

Quoted: Wow... some drivers are idiots. There are apps that let you map our a route so this doesn't happen. View Quote What's interesting is that if you map a route heading east out of Baton Rouge on LowClearanceMap.com with a load height of 16', that bridge does not show low. Several bridges to the east on I-12 show 15'. Not sure what his plan was because once he cleared that one he had no where to go. |

Driver was probably given a route but Google on his phone said this way would be faster, so... Besides, nobody will know and I'll get an extra break!

Quoted: Bet that airframe's screwed View Quote I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s scrap; too expensive to fix. The entire head and drivetrain, transmission, transmission outputs like the tail rotor drive and accessory gearbox, engines, their gearboxes, transmission and engine mounts, control linkages, airframe itself…I’m in the she’ll probably never fly again camp. |

Quoted: That trucker will always have bragging rights when the “most expensive thing you’ve destroyed” topic is brought up. That picture is a marvelous snapshot of our entire society at present. -Think of all the meticulous attention to detail, that went into building that thing. Destroyed in seconds, by a single thoughtless idiot. And most people will say “oh, no problem, that’s why we have insurance”. View Quote Attached File |

Woof. Goddamn. Well, go big or go home I guess. I think this driver is gonna get to do both. Probably get to go to hell too.
Google tells me that's like a $27 million dollar helicopter that just got square pegged through a round hole. Fuck. |

It says oversized load right on it. That is going to make his insurance cry mercy

Quoted: Yeah your route is on your state permit. It doesn't mean your permit is right, I feel any overpass that is unmarked and gets hit, the state should be 100% liable for any and all damages for negligence. That's not the way it works though. View Quote It's true the State gives you the route but sometimes it's wrong, the driver is still on the hook if they strike something, even if your pilot/height pole driver screws up it's still on the truck driver. (That's why we paid the big bucks ) |

While the driver is obviously to blame, I don’t know if it’s his fault. Does his paperwork show that the helicopter and trailer is less tall than the bridge? The bridge wasn’t under 14’ so he’s not a complete idiot

The Denham Springs Police Department said the driver, 56-year-old Miguel Rodriguez, worked for Texas-based trucking company International Machine Transport. He was ticketed for careless operation. View Quote |

I'll bet that airframe gets condemned. No way it can be straightened up to the specification.

From reading the thread title, I thought a helicopter was hauling a truck and flew under a bridge and got stuck

T hat will not buff very fast, and it will take all kinds of money, looks like a write off

This may be one of the many examples of the "competency crisis" that is occurring currently. This is a damned expensive mistake.

They went with the cheapest trucker the shipping broker could find.

Maybe it's just me, but a low boy seems like kind of a questionable way to transport something so expensive.
Is this a common thing in aviation circles? I've watched YouTube videos about airlines receiving new planes and generally it seems most of them are flown from whatever the final assembly plant is to their respective home airport. I guess there was a reason or something as to why this thing wasn't flown wherever it needed to go? |

It must have made a loud sound, like between a screech and a whistle, as it went under
