Male guineas are bad ass, they will whip a roosters ass with no effort.  We had one that chased off a wild turkey 4x it's size when it showed up.

Guinea fowl are a domesticated African bird. They are distantly related to chickens, so, guess what they taste like.

I like them fried with some green tomatoes on the side.

Not good eating. When I say “dark meat”, I mean dark grey almost black meat.
Tried low and slow with a water pan. Nope. Tough and chewy.
They’re great for bug removal and sentries.

This is true. They are tasty.

ETA Your recommended manner of capturing dinner reminds me of a running song at the academy...

A yellow bird
With a yellow bill
Flew upon my window sill
I led him in
with a piece of bread
And then I crushed his... fucking head!

Yeah, we were young and foolish then.

Back in the '60s and '70s, Guinea fowl were allowed to roam freely around the San Diego Zoo (along with Bantam chickens, Peafowl, and several other species.)  The birds did a very good job taking care of ticks, spiders, pest insects, etc. so the keepers told me.  But little kids would get pecked occasionally.

Don't feel badly.  Guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) are native to the more arid areas of the west coast of sub-Saharan Africa, so non-native species.

My parents kept a flock so I knew what it was right off.
