Then an XJS blew by me with a 308GTS glued to it's rear bumper. We had just topped a hill when they went by, so I had a long stretch to watch them before they went over the next hill. About halfway to the next hill was a late 70's Corvette (the Corvettes that were put out with a 350 and automatic), and I watched to see what his reaction would be. He apparently wasn't paying much attention to the rear view, and there was a short pause between them blowing by the Corvette, and the Corvette picking up speed. The XJS and 308GTS were gone, disappeared over the next hill, before the Corvette had picked up probably another 20 mph. |

There's a guy here in Denver that owns and frequently drives around in his Bugatti Veyron - I heard he's some big oil/gas executive...talk about a pussy magnet!
I was next to it one day...holy shit this car looks & sounds like wealth - its exactly like the picture below

My neighbor has a Ford Model A that has been in his family since the 30s
That's probably rarer than the occasional Lamborghini, Ferrari or Aston I see around here. |

I've seen a handful of Ferraris and Lamborghinis on the road. I've got a friend who's had a couple of cars that were worth a pretty good bit of money. He usually always has something interesting.

Veyron as well, but not nearly the coolest.
Just got back from the grocery store and saw an older Silver Spur that needed a bath parked near the front. There is a brown mid 80's phantom that I think is one of the coolest cars ever made around here. Way too many Aston Martins and Maseratis. I live down from the dealership though. I don't think that counts.  |

I have seen only one on the road, and I have wanted one ever since. I have seen a lot ofLambos and Ferraris on the road, but those seemed common even though they weren't that common. |

The first two that come to mind (in the rarity category, rather than the pricey category) are a Lamborghini Jalpa I got stuck behind in traffic for a while, and an Opel Manta A I see on my morning commute occasionally.

Many years ago in Ft. Lauderdale there was a Mercedes SS 540K. I don't know the value now, but back then it was a pretty expensive car.
Our family car in the late 40's was a pre-war Opel convertible that my dad fixed up. We drove that thing all the way to Florida when we moved there in '48. He finally sold because it was too hard to get parts and bought one of those coming and going Studebakers. |

I visited a garage one day up in Breckenridge, CO many years ago. They had a Ferrari race car from the early '60s there, I think it was a 250 GTO. Very cool car. Offhand I'd think that would be the rarest/most expensive I've seen.

I was driving next to a 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG. I would give my right nut for one... I almost side-swiped it drooling in traffic.
I own a 1983 Mercedes 380 SEL, they only made the long wheelbase model for 3 years with that engine, and the engine was only made for 5 years. (It is actually the forerunner of the 420 and 430 engine...they are all the same block) It is not exceptionally rare, but there you go. It also has the rear seat recline.

i live in a poor rural county. one day i stopped at the bank drive thru to deposit my paycheck. I had my windoow open when suddenly i hear a really nice sounding engine coming down the street. A guy pulls into the bank parking lot in a Testorossa.
2 weeks later same deal I go to deposit my check again and this time a screaming yellow whale tail porsche pulls in tha parking lot. Ferarri driver gets out of the Porsche. a week later i am sitting at one of the 2 traffic lights in town when a Ford GT pulls into the mini mart and wouldnt you know it ferarri guy gets out of the car. About a month later i see a red ferarri convertable pulled over by the po po, yes its the same guy.... Not long afterwards there was a story in the paper about a local eye doctor in trouble for tax evasion and shady business practices and it was the Ferarri guy. I guess he had a ton of really high dollar cars

The late Eddie Smith's Ferrari 275 GTB/S4 NART Spyder S/N 10709. Met Mr. Smith and got to look over the car close to 20 years ago. It is one of ten NART Spyders and before Mr. Smith's death it was the only original owner NART Spyder left. I have no idea if his son still has the car. I do recall Mr. Smith telling me he turned down a 3 million dollar offer for the car.

around Houston i've seen a couple of Vipers, a few Ferrari's, and a few Lambo's. saw a Maseratti recently, it seemed to be a lower end model, not fancy or anything, i was behind him and just saw the name, otherwise i wouldn't have known.

A Delorean, Ferrari 328, 308, 360, Lamborghini Countach, A couple Lamborghini Gallardo's one LP4, a couple Rolls' and a Bentley convertible, SL65 Black TT V12, Pantera. Probably a few I'm missing.
Lots of money running around here apparently. ETA Audi R8, Ford GT and a Lotus Esprit and an Elise. (SP?) |

Last year at Concours d'Elegance in Amelia Island, FL, I saw 12 Ferrari GTOs. One of these cars can sell for over $35 million. To see one is extremely rare. To see 12 together? That's almost half a billion dollars worth of Ferraris.
Plus, there was a Shelby Daytona, worth almost as much as a GTO. |

Working in San Francisco, I saw pretty much everything. Too many to name. One of my coworkers owned a Testarossa, and was also President of the Ferrari Club of North America, Western Region (or something like that).
He invited me to one of their autocross events on Treasure Island, where I had the pleasure of watching a Modena slam into the wall of a hangar. There's a guy not too far from me that has a Tesla Roadster, that I see once in a while in the warmer months. There's another guy in the Cleveland area that has a bright green Gallardo. I see him on I-480 once in a while, when I'm driving home from work. I always make it a point to get behind it, because MY GOD, the exhaust note on that thing is sexy. When traffic clears up and he guns it, it's sonic sex. Instant wood.

I'm late to this party but:
Anyone who is famililar with Eau Claire WI should know about Gene Grengs. He owned several theaters in the area and also is a classic car restoration expert. He has several pole buildings filled with every imagineable classic car. Gene's grandfather, Nick Grengs (deceased) was married to my aunt (father's sister). They lived in a house on property next to the facility where Gene had the shop where they restored the cars. There was also a drive-in theater there. Anyone familiar with the area would know where I'm talking about. I spent many summers there as a young boy and the classic cars were my playground. Duesenburgs, Cord's, Packards, Stuz-Bearcat racers, MB gullwings...you get the idea. Those cars were restored to showroom condition. Beautiful. For my 10th birthday, Gene brought out a little car used in the circus from around 1910 and let me drive it around. It was probably worth $10,000 at the time, and this was the late 70's. CSB I know. |

Thinking back, doesn't really count since they weren't driving, but last time I was in Canada, we stopped by a shop that worked on old Mercedes.
They had a small warehouse full of Gullwings, between 12-15 of them full restored awaiting their owners to complete payment and pick them up. Lots of full sized 40's models as well, absolutely gorgeous cars 
Also saw an original Ford GT-40 driving around one time, fucker barely came up to the windows in the Mustang I was in
