Back to the basics, folks. That is all that needs to happen.

That... and maybe some simunitions training so that all of this tacti-coolio range steppin' with three shots here two shots there and an admin reload out in the open gets realized as theatrics vs what happens when there is incoming.

Have fun clearing the cardboard targets that don't move or shoot back... but take a few hits of simunitions and see what happens.

I say more training and fewer gadgets.

Fitter happier
More productive
Comfortable
Not drinking too much
Regular exercise at the gym (3 days a week)
Getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries
At ease
Eating well (no more microwave dinners and saturated fats)
A patient, better driver
A safer car (baby smiling in back seat)
Sleeping well (no bad dreams)
No paranoia
Careful to all animals (never washing spiders down the plughole)
Keep in contact with old friends (enjoy a drink now and then)
Will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in the wall)
Favours for favours
Fond but not in love
Charity standing orders
On Sundays ring road supermarket
(No killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants)
Car wash (also on Sundays)
No longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows
Nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate
Nothing so childish
At a better pace
Slower and more calculated
No chance of escape
Now self-employed
Concerned (but powerless)
An empowered and informed member of society (pragmatism not idealism)
Will not cry in public
Less chance of illness
Tyres that grip in the wet (shot of baby strapped in back seat)
A good memory
Still cries at a good film
Still kisses with saliva
No longer empty and frantic
Like a cat
Tied to a stick
That's driven into
Frozen winter shit (the ability to laugh at weakness)
Calm
Fitter, healthier and more productive
A pig
In a cage
On antibiotics

I like this trend. Setup an AR as simply as functionally necessary. I dare say even slightly austere. My stuff is so uncool that it is cool again. I can still whack zombies marauding through my neighborhood better than all of my neighbors can.

I wasn't even thinking of changing anything until this post.

Now I want to attach some velcro to the receivers so I can rotate multiple whorefaces like morale patches, a new one each month.

I'll remain on the retro/KISS train. H&R has made carry handles available at reasonable prices and I'm going to continue taking advantage of it.

(Also going to continue training with a pistol. There is a much higher likelihood of needing a pistol in a hurry these days than a rifle IMHO.)

That's how I do mine, and why I never bother posting any pics of 'em, nobody would be impressed but I don't care, they go bang every time I pull the trigger and hit what i'm aiming at.

In the end, all of these 'trends' are no different than repeatedly changing the tires and seats on a car that's had the same engine and transmission for 50 years

I don't think there are actual trends in the 2024 AR market.

Fads sure.

But for right now things have gotten saturated enough.  Nothing I've seen connected with Shot has actually been new or consistent.

If there's an actual industry trend it's to make something other than an AR.

Because you can't really beat companies like PSA on value.

High End market stopped trying for long enough that it's not really competitive with anything but itself. Companies like BAD are even trying to get some of those sweet "just as good" customers (good luck with that).

So it's better to make an AR180/ACR/Scar almost AR gun but not really for a little over a Grand or two.

I doubt it will take off because so many companies both OEM and aftermarket have a vested interest in the status quo but I WISH this system would "trend" in the future.

1. more robust than set screws

2. idiot proof initial install

3. changes something that was more or less a permanent install into something "quick change" allowing someone to switch the entire gas system in about a minute or two using just one cheap/common hand tool with no concerns about alignment, proper torque, set screw locking compound, etc; all while putting zero torque/stress/pressure on the barrel or having to dimple or drill holes in it.

I think retro is in especially Mk12s, A1, A2, KAC RAS/RIS and DD quad rails. I think people have found the free floating rail has pros and cons, just like everything else. I have noticed the super high rise sights and also more carbon fiber is appearing.

Ironically my only two usable ARs (a Gothic Serpent and Block 1-ish) which were considered old and obsolete with their FSBs are now considered cool again. I always surprised that people ask me about them when I go to the range.

ETA: I don't think I've built an AR in five years. I have two Colts with DD rails, B5 sopmod stocks and old optics (ACOG and Aimpoint PRO) that work just fine. Haven't seen any need to upgrade since I built those.

My next AR build will be a 22lr with a 4 inch barrel. After that, I might get a new H&R partial fence lower to SBR, convert my XM177E2 build into an XM177E1 build, and use that lower for either the 22lr 4 inch or a 9mm retro AR.
