Never got to wear it.  The stigma in the infantry was we don’t wear snivel gear. Yet we were told to wear the liner under our bdu tops.  Never understood it but hey whatever.

They’re one of the only original companies still manufacturing them based on spec but they aren’t cheap and I doubt they’re made In Tennessee much less the US anymore.

A T-shirt, the wool sweater, then a BDU or jungle fatigue shirt was my favorite when it was fairly cold.  But if it was 10 degrees out and on guard duty standing there, you need more.

M-43 is mo bettah.

At The Front has super-nice repros. They also have M-41 "Parsons jacket" and several different flight jackets.

I've been looking around the web for one here lately for cooler weather. Most don't look very good or authentic to me. Can you help a brother out?

Go!

1surplus stores oughta have plenty.

2. I was never anything except freezing ass cold while wearing an M65, even with liner.

Lol. I grew up in the Northeast wearing M51’s and M65’s snd never froze my ass off.  They work just fine as long as you aren’t out getting waterlogged.  The lightweight liner was a game changer too.  Everyone knows mil gear relied on layering based on temps.

Lol. My experiences differ from yours.

But hey, Robert De Nero looked cool in it in Taxi driver.

Op, get a used one off of eBay but don't say you weren't forewarned as to what a hunk of shit jacket it is in terms of functionality.

While you're at get a set of Cochran jump boots for hiking.

Without the liner, yeah.

They're pretty warm with a liner though.

I did a thread last year and a member here hooked me up with a like new OD version. I have a woodland version as well.

They are perfect for what they are, but ARFcom believes that only Arctic conditions exist. In my real world experience from last year the jacket is fine down to mid forties to fifty without a liner and down close to freezing with it.

I really dig mine, though I don’t wear the camo in public or the OD except super casual times. Mainly I wear them around the house and farm.

My opinion also. Heavy and even more so with a liner. I have one that has been hanging in the basement for years. Should post it on FB/CL and move it out.

Honestly I don’t remember ever wearing mine, in fact I don’t think I ever replaced the crappy basic training name tapes on them.  I always just wore my goretex even in korea.

No offense to the OP's decisions, but as someone who was issued a real M65 (in "God's plaid"), I don't understand the fascination with them.

They're not cut particularly well, they ride a bit low but not low enough to be useful, they're not short enough that you won't sit on them in a car seat.
They have poorly placed and shallow pockets.

Without the button in liner, they're not much thicker than a flannel shirt but have 5x the bulk of one.

They're not warm, they're not water resistant, and they're only somewhat wind resistant.

Why do people seek these things out?

Same reason people buy antique cars, guns, or anything else.

I can't go back in time. But I can hold things from back then and remember, and sometimes that's worth it.

I hated mine. I loved the Gortex jackets we were issued later. With a set of polys, I was toasty in the preAlps.

I gave mine to my sister, but here is a Pic from back when they were common, to make you jelly. Lots of "old" in this one.

The smell reminds me of getting a bear hug from my Old Man. Agent Orange took him ~90 days after I retired so wearing it is less about my time in uniform but what his service cost him

Was gonna say even with 2 liners you'll freeze.

Also, Cowarts in Pearl MS has a fuck ton of them.

Damn thing went into the closet the day they invented Gortex jackets.  No freedom of movement and they don't keep you warm at all. But hey, I suppose they look badass to certain people.

People in GD used to post that the M65 is awesome. I'd always reply that it sucks.

Now GD says the M65 sucks. Maybe I'll look at buying one. Might be awesome.

Is there a quality maker in khaki or tan color?

M-65's sucked for the most part.  I used to wear my Gortex coat with a liner most often.  Usually only wore the Field Jacket when required, such as a battalion or higher formation when uniformity was absolutely required.  There were some soldiers in Germany that would have thick liners sewed into over-sized wet weather tops and wear those much of the time.

Not sure, but the model is in dire need of a double cheeseburger.  If I had his address I'd send him a delivery pizza on me.

I wish more coats were cut like them. As long as it's not raining I'll take a m65 down to 0. Which is pretty much my normal hunts/camping trips in the fall/winter.

I'm not sure why anyone needs anything else for 32 - 0. At least I don't.

I have a wet weather jacket that doubles as a dry cold jacket.   M65 does one poorly, the other not at all.

I can respect nostalgia but it's a shit jacket to actually wear.
