Heading to the course...to help set up for a fundraising tournament my kid's school is hosting.  Maybe I'll get a chance to play a quick nine th is evening.

We’ve been playing in a mix of calm sunny days to sideways hail and rain that turned greens into rivers (only lasted 3 holes)! Lots of knockdown shots and honestly, bunting a 5 iron on the green is a 100% valid strategy that often yields better results than trying to fly a wedge up in the wind. Today is our last day here and it’s supposed to be calm and sunny so we’re playing Pac Dunes and Sheep Ranch one more time. |

Played the course I grew up on today. Second oldest course in the state. Was a country club for 115 years and went semi private 5 or so years ago. Fantastic greens and very well maintained. Couple bogies to start. Played the last 7 on the front -3. Inward 9 was a bit sloppy, but it's early here. Rained on and off for most of the round. It's so nice to be back outside! |
10,000 years ago there was a 2 mile thick glacier parked right here and not 1 SUV to melt it.

Got the best weather you could ask for on Pacific Dunes. High 50s and barely any wind. Amazing Doak course with some very scenic holes! Attached File ETA: The dead wind here today allowed me to shoot a very good round and finally crack the single digit handicap for the first time in my life! Started out really rough with a bad range session and 3 double bogies on the first 4 holes which had me thinking it was going to be a high 80s or even 90s round. Ended up making a big turnaround and had 3 birdies with 5 more bogies after that to finish out the round at a nice 79. I got lucky 2 times with errant right tee shots still having enough distance to clear major obstacles and allowing me to make 2 really good recovery mid iron shots to the green for a tap in birdie and another tap in par. I also hit a really nice blind flop shot over a big gorse bush on a par 3 to 2 feet for a roller-coaster of a par which cleared my head a bit to re-focus and start playing good golf for the remaining 13 holes. 100% would recommend Bandon Dunes to anybody who can get away and play the 5 courses. Each one was spectacular with Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, and Old MacDonald standing out in particular to me. |

I’ve shot lower, but this might be the best round I’ve ever played considering the wind was blowing 25 the whole time. Going low generally involves putting out of my mind. I had a level of control over the ball today I’ve never experienced before. Attached File |

Golf is fun. Played the front 9 on a muni. Was hitting big drives all day but this muni loves putting trees everywhere. The problem is these trees are massive and even if you’re in the fairway, the boughs prevent high iron approaches on most of the holes. The effective fairway is like 1/3. Ended up shooting a 42 and felt like i had very few scoring opportunities because nearly everything was a bump and run. I hit 5/7 fairways btw… idk if im being picky but thats just bad course design IMO. Went back and played my 9 hole mens league yesterday (different course that’s links style with more water and native areas but not many massive trees in the middle of the fairway) and shot a 38. Now im feeling good about myself again! It’s nice being able to hit wedges from 140 in and not having to resort to low shots on dry greens.

I think like I'm taking my lead arm to a 3 o clock position (or 9, depending on how you view the clock XD) where its straight back instead of the full rotation where its going above parallel to the ground. It usually results in about 15% less club head speed on most clubs and knocks off 10-20 yards or so and comes out a bit lower. I have been practicing this extensively with wedges at all swing types to really try and dial 30, 50, 70, etc. shots when you can't use a full swing. Even better if you have a range with markers at different distances or a simulator bay to get the actual real numbers. The tiger approach to shaving strokes is work from the green back to the tee. I've been trying that a lot more this year and my strokes gained in the <100 yard range has been better than ever before. |

I'm ready to start back after being out for 6 years. Shattered my C6 in '19 and messed my Ulnar Nerves, which messed up my ring and pinky fingers on both hands. Buying a new set shortly to celebrate. Last round was at Duran GC in Viera, FL and shot 75. Looking forward to hitting the rock again. Hit 'em straight guys. |

Wife and I played Cabo Real yesterday for the 1st time. Beautiful course and the back 9 is challenging! For me 1st time course playing causes a bit of anxiety, but in the end shot an 84, which is slightly above average for me. I’ll take it! Next up: Cabo del Sol |

I cannot stand golf courses where you can be in the fairway and still be tree fucked. I've been told by more than one super that there should be no trees within 100' of a putting green or tee box. The shade makes the grass harder to grow and doesn't promote ventilation. There are many golf courses built a long time ago that had small trees. They grow over 50-75 years and are now too big and not what the designer intended. No one wants to cut them down for fear of the members complaining. |
