I still think that some of the anime (GITS2, AKIRA, EVA) is kinda pretentious and convoluted.  I try to stick to action and fantasy and sometimes a comedy.  I'm watching something called "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" right now.

Has anyone mentioned Lodoss War or Gundam 0083?

Are you liking Haruhi?

And as much as I like Gundam, 0083 is not my favorite.  I own it, and I do love the dogfight sequences, but the badly written attempt at a love story was out of place.

Another reason to watch anime is that you can still find HERO's in anime.  Not just protagonists, real old fashoned heros.

Second episode of the Hellsing OVA is better than the first; much less rushed. Also, Jan Valentine is still a whiny bitch, but Luke Valentine is actually much more badass than in the tv series or even the manga. Still goes out like a bitch though, which is as it should be. I'm a bit disappointed they revealed that the Third Reich is behind the Millenium organization's vampire experiments though.

On way I've found to (potentially) get people into anime is AMV (anime music videos). It gives people a "trailer" of the show without having to force something to sit through a series.

Good ones for some series:

Azumanga Daioh

Beyond the Clouds

RahXephon

Evangelion

FLCL

Paranoia Agent

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The quality sucks. You can download the better version from www.animemusicvideos.org

We were talking about a scene from that AMV.

However, if you want to get specific, the drug of choice when talking about Eva are anti-depressants. To wit, about episode 14 when Hideaki Anno stopped taking his.

AMV Hell 3 is the best of the series. AMV Hell 2 had some good ones, but overall wasn't as funny. AMV Hell 0 is just... disturbing. Disturbing as only the Japanese can be.

You forgot to mention that he draws down on everything.

Sgt. Sagara is a straight up tacticool operator.  In FMP fumoffu he tries to solve all the high school problems with guns and military equipment.  He detonates explosives in Chidori's locker,  Draws down on about have the characters in the show, and shoots a ton of people with rubber bullets.

He's a role model.

He is the epitome of a true ARFcommer.

And hence why he's my avatar.

I believe EVERONE here on ARF would appreciate at least some of FMP, and definitely most (if not all) of Foumoffu. The Steyr TMP/SPP "ad" in the first ep of Foumoffu is just classic!

I've watched most of my anime from Cartoon Network, Netflix, and file sharing.
SciFi doesn't usually show a lot of anime.

They're showing ads now saying they're going to have an official anime night starting Mondays next week at 8PM/9PM central time. Based on the ads, it looks like they're not going to be very censored either. I'm not a huge anime fan, but I didn't recognize any of the stuff they showed.

Official SciFi statement.

I hope when they say they're going to play Ghost in the Shell they mean the movies. The series is great, but I've already seen them enough to make my head spin. EDIT: Solid State Society apparently is a Ghost in the Shell movie.

They'll also be playing:
-Solid State Society (Ghost in the Shell movie, more than likely high quality.)
-Ninja Scroll (looks pretty good on paper.)
-Blood: The Last Vampire (The series is okay, hopefully the movie is too.)
-Read or Die (Looks mediocre.)
-Blackjack (Looks boring, but might have potential.)
-Tokko (Looks really good.)
-Noein (Looks kind of weak.)
-Streetfighter 2-V (The game was great, anime looks dumb.)

Haven't heard of alot of them, some sound kind of lame.

ETA: I also added a first thought rating to the animes based on my search of details and plot ideas.

+ eleventy billion.

You forget to mention that he sees terrorists/enemies everywhere and draws down on everything.

A great scene is when he's at an arcade playing one a shooter game with the fake gun.
He runs out of ammo so he draws his glock 26(yes he's a glock man) and shoots the screen. I'm sure someone here have done the same.

Rumor has it that Hideaki Anno wrote the original script in 1993 while incarcerated in a mental hospital after a suicide attempt.  According to this rumor, this was a result of the deaths of his wife and son in an automobile accident just prior.

It would explain much, I suppose.  But I cannot speak to the providence of the rumor.  The inside of the man's head would appear to be a very, very, very strange place, though.

From what I heard Anno worked on several Animes that failed very badly. So he was really fucked in the head then.  He planed to kill him self if Eva failed.

Verdict: 50-50 on choices. Probably had to do with licensing fees.

eta: OK, other than GITS:SSS, all the other titles are Manga USA distros. I'm sure that SciFi got some sweetheart deal to show a couple of new titles (Noein and Tokko) along with good titles (ROD, Blackjack).

Like Eva or not, the man has had his hand in some legendary titles:

- Nausicaa
- Wings of Honneamise
- Gunbuster
- Eva
- Kare Kano
- Daicon
- Macross

Too bad GAINAX has been turning out pure shit ever since FLCL.
