RALEIGH, N.C. –  Authorities in eastern North Carolina say armed robbers stole $4 million in gold from a truck traveling on Interstate 95 from Florida to Massachusetts.

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office says the two security guards working for Transvalue Inc. of Miami reported pulling to the side of the interstate after their vehicle began having mechanical problems.

They were then approached by three armed men driving a white van who ordered the guards to lie on the ground, tied their hands behind their backs and then marched them into nearby woods. Authorities say the male suspects then unloaded barrels filled with gold and made their getaway.

Gee, what rotten luck.

Yeah...no possibility of an inside job there.

And no one witnessed this?

That is, like, 276 227 pounds. Why in the hell would you not air-freight that?

Maybe not an inside job. Bad guys probably sabotaged the truck to force them to stop.

You're gonna get a strongly worded C&D letter from the A-Team legal counsel.

How did they know which truck to sabotage and then get access to it?

You do realize that armored trucks don't magically teleport gold and money into them while they are driving right?

You do realize that they need to stop at locations to do a pickup and a dropoff right?

You would think they would stay in the armored truck until another truck shows up then back up to it to transfer the load. Sounds like an inside job for sure.

Article doesn't say if they were inside or outside, but depending on the type of arms the criminals were carrying, that could change the situation drastically.

I'm thinking a truck moving from Florida to Mass with a very specific amount of gold is not the same struck
running around making the night deposit pickups.

It departed a very specific origin on it's way to a very specific destination 1300 miles away.
This wasn't a Dunbar truck filled with canvas zippered bags of quarters.

Perps either new every detail of the trucks route and cargo, or a few hood rats got extremely lucky on the one of the most busy highways in America.

And when you climb under the truck with your set of tools, the guards will just pretend that you're not there. You'll also have to make sure that whatever you do causes the truck to fail at some place where you can attack the crew, steal the load, and escape with minimal observation/intervention. It won't work if the truck bites the big one at a red light in front of the police station.

Really?

I can think of a lot of ways they knew when & where to rob the what (what being Gold)

The insurance carrier might require a report of movement from the vault?

Anyone with access to the gold departures from point A to point B ?

Any other person who had the place under surveillance for movements of Gold?

You know there really are crews out there like in Heat right?

They usually don't get caught because they are experienced and minimize their risks.

Now some MFGers send an escort with a tractor Trailer load of cigarettes.

Know what a trailer load is worth?

600 packs per case, 800 cases = over $2.5 million dollars wholesale , $1.5 million @ .40 cents on the dollar

They duct tape whats looks like 8 sticks of dynamite to the windshield and hold a lighter near the fuse and say open the doors or we light this?

What would you do?

I tend to think the majority of criminals are not actually like how they are portrayed in movies like the Italian Job or heat. I think it more likely that they guys driving the truck were simply in on it.

but if they werent they sure are gonna wish they were with the amount of heat coming down on them.
