Wow is that an essortment that looks to cover everything from WWI though today...  I see German, Russian, American, and various oddballs in there...  very cool and tag for later!

Iraq's a living weapons museum - if one was ever built (as a production item), there's probably one there.

There's a lot of 1911s in Iraq, mostly told to be leftovers from when we were giving arms to the Iraqis.

Back when more contractors were rolling armed I knew one guy that had picked up a rather nice '44 Remington Rand on the local market. Getting .45 ammo, on the other hand, wasn't near as easy.

There even seems to be a side lock musket, flint perhaps in the 3rd from bottom pic. All neat stuff, especially the cut down PPsH41.

Or the '44 Remington Rand someone else mentioned.

The only two I consider that "unusual" would be the PA-63, essentialy because it's a sub-gun that operates like an overgrown semi-automatic pistol with a "slide" instead of a bolt, and the SKS "pistol".

How well do they inspect the mail that comes in and goes out?  Does Iraq have a FedEx hub?  Ship it back one piece at a time.  If only America was a free country that still let men have souvineers.  Hell, I'd go over there just to plunder like the generations before me have.  When my family went overseas in war, if it wasn't nailed down, it was taken, and pry bars were taken to what was nailed down.

Ive heard soldiers say their mail was denied when they sent back M4 handguards and the like...good luck getting a PPSH out of there...

I hate even thinking about what's going to happen to that Sturmgewehr.

I wonder if that's also a real MG42 or if it's just an MG3.

If the US got invaded and they took all the guns away from citizens the odd ball guns like this would go on for page after page and would be amazing.  I'm not the only one that's sad?

How far is it to the nearest place you can send a USPS International package?  With all the tonnage USPS handles, there's almost no possibilty of it being inspected in any meaningful way.  Maybe sniff pallets with dogs for bombs, but that's probably it.  If you went around the Army's PO, I'd imagine it might not be too hard to send a gun back, especially if you took it apart and did seperate shipments, but this is pure speculation and I wouldn't dream of bringing the ATF's ire down upon myself.

My cousin lived in the Green Zone for 4 months. When he first arrived he met the guy who had his position who was rotating out. The guy made it a point to say that he had a "footlocker" in their quarters and that he "would be back for it". No big deal.

Months go by and one day my cousin and another guy who were now sharing the accommodations were "remodeling" the place- moving things around and they decided to move the "footlocker" which was some kind of long box made out of plywood. In the process of moving it they managed to drop it- heavy as a mofo....it broke open. A shitload of live grenades spilled out.....there were "several" folding stock AK's with mags and ammo, about a half dozen pistols of various types, a couple of Sterlings and several blocks of plastic explosives......

They called the MP's. Never found out exactly what happened to the guy.

I think there is a hell of alot more of that stuff floating around the good 'ole USA than you might think.

it's a real fucking shame that we have all the gun laws that we do here in the "land of the free", but it's an even bigger shame that our men and women fighting for us aren't allowed to keep whatever the fuck they want.

you want that sterling? why not. you earned it! and here's four more for your troubles...

Good luck trying to mail anything gun related home- one of my buddies doing private security was given a lot of grief shipping his EOTech and Surefire handguards home even though he had the receipts for them in hand.  Supposedly they x-ray everything leaving; I left at the end of 2005 and one of my trunks arrived home with a note on top and inside that they had opened it to inspect a magazine.  Funny thing was they mislabeled it as an M16 mag when it was actually a Russian Bakelite AK mag.  It made it home, but I wouldn't count on anything making it here now.

I mostly found AK's when I was there and a fellow Marine found a cool Enfield that some Major took away from him.   I did find some Makarov ammo which was a godsend since my gunner was only given like 13 rounds for his Beretta... we test fired the ammo from the Beretta and it was... adequate.

I would have loved to find a 1911 though!

Says you, sucka.  Mag dumps are required for camel spiders.

Or at least I think they should be.
