Ate it 3 times a week while in Japan. Nothing like eating fish that was swimming around in the ocean an hour or two before it was on your plate. This place is the place to go for cheap and excellent stuff. 105 yen a plate. http://www.akindo-sushiro.co.jp/en/ View Quote |

I live in a land locked state. No way am I eating raw fish here. Trip to the coast? Sure. View Quote "But because of health concerns and growing demand, 50 to 60 percent of sushi in the United States is frozen at some point in its journey from the ocean, according to wholesalers. And rare is the sushi restaurant that tells customers upfront that they may be eating fish that has been in deep freeze for up to two years. Most would be even more surprised to learn that if the sushi has not been frozen, it is illegal to serve it in the United States. Food and Drug Administration regulations stipulate that fish to be eaten raw -- whether as sushi, sashimi, seviche, or tartare -- must be frozen first, to kill parasites." |

It used to disgust me. My wife has since changed my mind, it's great. We have it at least once a month.

Hell yeah. I buy sashimi grade fish from the local seafood distributor and make it at the house.

Every year or so, my local Mitsuwa will get a gigantic tuna flown in direct from Japan to Chicago, and butcher it in the middle of the store for everyone to see.
Then they sell off hunks of tuna for a reasonable price. 1 Several hundred people show up for the spectacle. Mitsuwa Bluefin Tuna Cutting Performance. I spent $40 or $50 on fish chunks after one of these shows ... 1and developed a severe acute case of fish pox (itchy scratchy skin with welts). Proof that the fish was fresh! Totally awesome!!! |

Local place has an all-you-can-eat option. I always get my money's worth.

Not anymore, I got sick just once and that ended it.
I ate some squid once it was still moving on the plate though. |

Short story During my culinary apprenticeship I worked in a fish warehouse part time for 6 months. Very educational, I would never eat raw seafood of any kind after that experience. Worms tumors cysts ect. in every kind of fish that I butchered. Enjoy View Quote |

I just can't get past the texture and smell of uni. It has the texture of soft serve ice cream. I just can't get past soft serve with a strong fishy smell and taste. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Hell yes, love me some/sashimi!!. Too bad I had to give it up for this lo-carb diet.
ETA- for the benefit of you proles that didn't spend time in Japan courtesy of Uncle Sam the word miso literally means SOUP in Japanese, so miso soup is redundant! |

Escolar is the best (called White Tuna sometimes, but isn't tuna at all) soft texture that melts in your mouth, rich, buttery taste, it's perfect.
Just don't eat more then 6 ounces...which is a shame because I think I could eat much more in a sitting if not for that pesky gempylotoxin. Read the link, I'm it describing it in this thread. https://amp.thekitchn.com/use-caution-when-eating-escola-66602 Also it is an ugly fish. But so is "Chilean sea bass", (hence why the don't call it by its real name, it is much less appetizing) |

Raw not cooked is my jam.
No YUM YUM sauce shit. Just some wasabi infused soy sauce. Yum. |

It took me a long time to warm up to it, but these days I enjoy it very much.

Till I was in my early 20's I refused to even try it, then my brothers friends wanted to take him to a sushi place for his birthday since he loved the stuff. I was promised that the place had plenty of non sushi offerings on the menu.
Filthy liars. But hey, I learned I actually really like the stuff so it worked out in the end |

Yes, sushi sashimi all of it
Cigutera and parasites aren't that bad I'll never eat raw shellfish though, vibrio is hell |
