Hey all,

I've been wanting to replace my sights on my G19 for a while but I can't decide which ones to get.  I've read and heard quite a bit of good things about the XS Tritium Big Dots, but I've also seen quite a bit written about the TruGlo TFO and the Trijicon sights as well.  There's just too darned many really good sights available today.

Can you all help with some recommendations?  Which ones do you like?  Have you recently replaced your sights with a new set of night sights or a good set of non-night sights that you really like?

If you have any pics comparing some of these sights, please post.

Any help you can give on this would really be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and any help you care to give me.

Larry

I am putting Ameriglo CAP sights on everything.  with my eyes the big green square front sight and the hashmark on the rear are easier to see. if there are better sights for me, it`s gonna cost me another fortune to switch again.

I tried XS sights. Like so many others, I found they suck for anything other than close shots. I prefer a front night sight with a serrated black square notch rear. That also happens to be about the cheapest combo. You can get a GLOCK front night sight for cheap and AmeriGlo makes rears. Zero need to spend big money on sights. Fiber optic fronts with black rears are popular as well, and probably just as effective.

Put Truglo Tritium Pro sights on both of mine last week. They are awesome and not super expensive

I have standard night sights on my carry pistol.
next go round I'm leaning towards Truglo TFO sights: http://www.truglo.com/firearms-handgun/brite-site-tritium-fiber-optic-handgun-sights-green-yellow.asp they are both Tritium and Fiber Optic Sights

I can't carry here legally but for my HD handguns I have gravitated to Warren Tactical or Heinie vertical night sights.  They are the best for me.

I just ordered a set of these to put on a buddy's g19.  He has bad eyes and fiber optic front sights have too small of a dot.  I thought the green square would help.  I'm curious to get them on and try them.

Don't like the dual dot rears

Heinie makes some good stuff

I had a tough time deciding on night sights because it’s hard to get an idea of what they all actually look like without committing.

I went with Trijicon bright and tough, because they had good reviews and trijicon seems to have a reputable name.

The glowing green dots are surrounded by a reflective white circle on both the front and rear.

I like them, I don’t love them, they work.

This is what they look like

I'm fond of Tru-Glo TFX sights. Currently have them on a CZ75 and a G43.

Currently have Trijicons on my G27.  When they get too dim (installed in '05), I intend to replace them with the TFX.

Recently tried the XS front sight on a snub nosed revolver.  They'll do for that application I suppose, but I won't be putting them on anything else.

Same.

Just put a set of yellow front Trijicon HD XR's on my both my HK P30 and on my P30sk recently. Excellent sights and work well for me.

This is going to sound ignorant, because I know they're not as durable and people have broken them, but I like stock Glock sights.  I think if they were metal from the get go, they would be perfectly serviceable.

I know there are better sights out there.  But I think for me, I'd just use them until they broke.  And if you don't run your pistol overly hard, they're probably not going to.  But maybe have a back up set is a good idea......

If you're taking a lot of classes and racking the slide with them, then I'd say you'd want some kind of metal sights.

I'm the odd man out here, in that I HATE 3 dot sights. I actually love the "U-bar-dot" sights of factory Glocks. I actually switch mine out for the steel versions.
Maybe it's because I started with Glocks, so 24 years later.... I'm VERY used to those sights. I just find it's quicker for me to get alignment with them. I suck with 3 dots, as my brain has to figure out which dot it which, where it needs to move, etc. The U-bar, for some reason, just lets my eyes naturally center it.
Everyone's different, I guess I'm lucky that the factory setup works best for me.

I used to do similar. On Glocks I would use the original rear sight and a Hivis overmolded front sight in green. after all this time, the old eyes don`t see that setup as well. anyways I shoot M&Ps now.

I feel the same. You have to light up/ID your target anyway (which washes out tritium), so most people just use the outline of their sights.

I've been using Warren Tacticals for several years. I use a single tritium dot on the rear now, though.

I prefer Dawson Fiber Optics. Black rear and fiber front.

I have done extensive darkness training and they work just fine. For night sights I do run Ameriglo Hackathornes. They have a plain black rear and a bright orange paint with green night sight front.

For me, anything on the rear sight at all messes with my eyes. A two or three dot set up makes my eyes not focus on anything.

I think the XS Big Dots are the WORST sights ever created. Whoever created them has clearly never heard of target focus vs sight focus. If I'm within 10-15 yards I'm shooting target focus and the sights are blurry. I don't need massive sights for that. Any further than that and I'm shooting sight focus where big dots just make it impossible to get a good sight picture.

I ran Trijicon HDs for years on and off duty until I realized how much faster I was in low light with no dots on the rear. Honestly I think night sights are over rated but that's another discussion. I also found that at distance the U notch style sights hurt my shooting and they don't help or hurt up close. This was all found out through years of shooting and training with shot timers.

This is of course just my opinion and what works for ME. I think sights are so subjective you have to figure out what works for you. I have bad eyes and an astigmatism so I need a black rear. YMMV.

I'm 50 and I don't see my sights as well as I used to.

The orange front sight on the HDs pops like no other sights I've tried.

"Novak Style" three dots.  Either actual Novaks or Trijicons.

Can't stand those goofy "straight 8" sights that are all the rage these days.

I used to do all black rears, but found the single dot rear to be useful. Straight eights are much quicker and less distracting than 2 dot rears for me.

Trijicons - 3-dots. Front dot will be a different  color than the 2 rears (green/orange, whatever). Just the way I roll on my pistols.
