I feel a little dumb even asking this, but I am confused and want to get this right before I order. Here it goes. I want to purchase a USP45, with a LEM trigger, and a thumb safety on the left side of the weapon. Does H&K make this configeration? If so, what varient # is it? I think it would be #5, but after talking to the guy behind the counter at the fun store I'm so confused.hat Thanks for any and all help. |

You cannot order the LEM trigger and get a safety also. The LEM kit does away with the control lever and does not use a detent plate. However, you can buy the LEM kit and order a V5 pistol (DAO, safety only). By the way, the V5 is a DAO trigger but it is NOT the LEM DAO trigger system. Then get the smith to mix and match the parts and you can have the safety and it will be functional. The LEM kit will come with the 8 pound pull springs. To get a lighter pull put the standard USP firing pin block spring in which will reduce the pull to about 7 pounds and if you put in the normal USP trigger return spring in that will further reduce the pull to about 5.5 pounds. That should give you what you want. Seem like a lot of work though when the whole idea behind the LEM trigger is that you have a safe pistol with a long deliberate pull which will prevent ADs, at least in theory. |

Thanks Big-Bore. I like the thumb safety of the H&K and the constant trigger pull of the "lightened" LEM. I guess what I'm looking for is a 1911,but my work says they are a no nohe Thanks for the help. |

A BIG no nohe We have used S&W 4506 for the past 15 or so years and have not ever had anyone look at them until they break while firing. I have seen broken frames, broken de-cockers, and sights fall off the weapons. I am on my third one in 9 years. I was even told by our staff that the de-cocking lever was a exteral safetyhock.gif. I even know some guys even carry it with the de-cocker engaged. They are now being phased out for H&K USPs. I hate to admit it but after all this I do not blame some of the command staff for making some of these descisions. Some of our guys are scary and the command staff knows little about firearms. Funny thing is that with all these bans, one of our guys had a ND and blew a hole in the carpet in our office with a H&K Compact. Set bullets frags all over and nearly stuck my partner. (Rant mode off) We were just authorized to buy and carry our own handguns as long as they are 45, double action first pull, no cocked and locked, no Glock (yet), and most importantly, must be stock from the factory. I would really be testing the waters with a H&K LEM becasue it has no exteral safety. Oh well, at least I get to go shopping and dump my 4506 . |
