I can see I've got a lot more learning to do..... I'm not even going to try with the acronym, as it wouldn't surprise me in the least if I'm on the receiving end.....
So, correct me if I'm wrong........ Accubonds are a darn good bullet when it comes to expansion, even down to subsonic transition speed, their claims of the unworldly BC have been different to prove, even substantiated. When it come to translating published information to observed performance, one would be best served to stick with the Bergers. Is that pretty close? |

Most of us are shooting paper and long range steel. We've been testing to see what our barrel likes. Most of us shoot the Hornady 130 ELDMs very well. Mine shot the Lapua 139gr scenar well, but not great (need to tweak the load), but my bolt gun loved it. Same for the nosler, berger, barnes, etc., etc. You may want to try a box of the H130s and go from there. Use the thread's index and look at the loads that were posted, and see if your rifle likes them. You can spend a lot of money trying to perfect a load, or you can buy the Hornadys.  YMMV.
Now, with that said, what are you going to do with your rifle, hunt or punch paper and steel? |

My plan is it will make up the other half of my 6.5 hunting outfit. That was the plan for my .260 barrel, but I couldn't get past the exposed gas tube, so I sold it. For Elk, we hunt in pairs and this is going to be the LR tool; anything over 300, maxing out in the 400-600 yd range, depending on wind. When we hunt antelope , there are always an abundance of tags and options to shoot in various conditions.
I like to hunt with monolithics, but you need such high terminal velocities...+2000fps....they aren't suited well here. The Accubond LRs stated expansion all the way down to 1300fps makes them attractive.....before Barnes coppers, we used Noslers exclusively. |

I couldn't get comfy at the bench today, irritates me. I did however decide to back way off on the power this time while shooting, big difference. Used 15x to 18x at 100 yards and probably could use even less.
Shot 100% in suppressed mode with no can, rifle shot like budda. So I am slightly over gassed, that sounds like it's a common feature of many of these barrels. Brass still looks really good. Rifle seems to be very gentle on the brass. |

Push them faster out of a gasser and you'll see pressure issues. YMMV. 2650-2700fps is respectable in a 22" barrel. Most guys running a 26" bolt gun with 142's are in the 2775-2825fps range. Trying to get those velocities in a 22" gas gun is just asking for trouble. Based on the general rule of 25fps per inch reduction, 2700fps seems like a sane max velocity for the heavies in a 22" without running into pressure issues and abusing the brass too much. That said, if I was planning on hitting a specific velocity with the 140 class bullet, I'd figure that a 22" would net 2600-2650 without running into pressure issues. |

That reminds me, I wanted to post about the muzzle device I am using. Its not Larue so forgive me
If you are shooting suppressed this isnt for you so much http://www.area419.com/product/hellfire_st/ I am very impressed with the recoil reduction and the sound at the gun. While shooting it is not loud and there is no felt concussive force, out to the sides and behind that is another story  . I went this direction because I am not shooting suppressed right now. I have two 260 barrels that I can move this device to with ease, no tools. When and if I do get a suppressor they make taper mounts for specific cans on the market. In addition to being able to move it to other barrels, you can easily remove to clean. Some pics for the pic whores

That's what I have on mine .
I had it on my 16" 308 barrel. It was beyond night and day for that. Never shot the 260 without it so I can't compare but the gun is pretty soft shooting. The self timing thing is nice (especially compared to the !@;&/@$ shim kit, almost lost my mind installing that). |
Range Report! Found a couple of hours of free time this afternoon so I ran to the range, only 1 box of ammo, no real rear bag  , shitty china clone bipod but I got to shoot it
All but the last group were shot off bench, last 5rds I got smart and setup prone but still managed to yank a shot 
Was a great day out to shoot

| Nice shooting Wolf. If I have to shoot off a bench I turn it around and shoot off the square end. That way your positioning is similar to prone as far as your upper body goes. It has helped me with consistency. |

Interesting turn of events In the .260 trashing brass saga. So originally I decided my can (griffin RSTA) was the issue causing loose primer pockets after a few firings because my loads with RL17 did not destroy primer pockets without the can. (Factory loaded Hornady had loose primer pockets as well)
Today I got a wild hair in my ass to try h4350 and the suppressor and sure enough I am on my 6th firing with one lapua case at 41.5 gr of h4350 with the griffin RSTA and I have little to no primer pocket loosening. The RL17 must just have a longer pressure spike and with the suppressor unlocking the bolt sooner it is deforming my primer pockets. Guess I will sacrifice some velocity to save brass life. As a side note I took the RL17 load running 2800 fps to 1018 last weekend and with my last 9 shots I rapid fired and hit the target 8 times, I was getting shots off before you would hear the impact from the previous hit and only missed one time. The guys I went shooting with who weren't behind the spotting scope thought I was shooting 525 yards. They couldn't believe it when the spotter told them it was the 1000 yarder

Thought I'd head to Quantico and loaded up the stuff last night, but when I got up this morning there was a heavy, thick fog; the kind that just hangs there to late in the morning. I didn't feel like waiting hours on the range for it to burn off, and shooting 100 wasn't at the top of the list, so I unloaded and will move to change 1 to plan b.

Anyways, thanks to one of the members here, I now have a die set and lapua brass to load, once this current trade show I'm working at is over I'll be ordering the neck bushings (0.288" and 0.289"), and some 123 & 130gn ELD to play with. If I'm off on the bushing size someone let me know
