I don’t expect my M249S to have a bayonet lug, since it isn’t on the contract production weapons, but on 16” Colt IARs it is supposed to be there. I’d have no problem with it being optional from AU, but they didn’t give anyone the option. They didn’t even say that it wouldn’t be there. I’m thinking the journal on the Colt barrel is .750” at that location. Not sure though. We really shouldn’t have to add our own lug. Not an easy thing to do. |

I'll confirm fitment when it arrives. |

Please do share your findings when you have a chance to test it all out. I'm not sure the lack of a bayo lug is a deal breaker for me but being able to shoehorn one back on is definitely a plus! |

UPS came early today! Nothing unsurprising based on what everyone has said. Doesn't seem to have any weird hues to the ano but I haven't tried to take a pic yet. No bayonet lug but I am definitely unbothered. Matech BUIS, locking front flip sight. Mine had a C-marked carrier and MPC-marked bolt, charging handle looked unmarked. Definitely a big boy with that heat sink. Used a PSA M4A1 lower and it looks pretty good together. Financially horrific timing but it's something I'm happy to add to the collection. ETA - quickly took a pic. Not sure I like the PA 5x and Matech together since the optic is pushed forward so far, just what I had on my desk. The eyebox is so tiny on the PA that I've had trouble finding a home for it anywhere. Attached File |

| My 16" IAR upper half arrived yesterday. As detailed in previous posts, it didn't include a bayo lug. However, it did include a bolt carrier group and charging handle in the upper half and a separate bolt carrier group and charging handle in a zip lock bag. I wonder if that's them trying to make up for the lack of a bayo lug, a failure to pay attention, or a bonus to me for being such a wonderful customer. |

No, my guess is they slipped in an extra set of bcg and ch not realizing they were already installed. Most uppers seem to be arriving with upper in sealed Colt bag and bcg/ch in separate bag. They obviously popped your bag open and installed bcg/ch, then mistakenly added another set of bcg/ch in separate bag like all others. Thats a nice $200+ bonus for you. |

| I would do what you think best. Everyone has different comfort levels. They will probably tell you to just keep it as they shouldn't offer it to anyone else after leaving their hands...they wouldn't know if you monkeyd with the bcg, swapped small parts, etc. Kinda like extra groceries in your bag...you can return it but the grocery store tells you to keep it, they can't put it back in inventory. |

ive been sort of tracking this colt iar story since the first spare uppers hit the market at the knob creek machinegun shoot thru kurt at ordanance research back in the day. the no bayo lugs are likely correct for the mexican contract over runs which is where the 11.5'' uppers originated it seems. theres a rumor the 11.5'' iar were fbi hrt but that may be just a rumor, time will tell. this morning i was watching the colt ar15 resource channel on youtube and he mentioned and it reminded me that i should go grab a colt iar spare gas tube and barrel nut wrench at au while they are still available. i was totally shocked when i saw the colt iar uppers 16'' priced at 1399. each and verified the price was recent by noticing the happy feed backs everyone left on dec 17th just 3 days ago. i then did a search for colt iar parts and was shocked again that the 11.5'' iar uppers were not only in stock at 1399. each but that they had 53 in stock as of today and they include the colt branded radian raptor charging handle and magpul metal rear sight and bcg. this is totally amazing because last i checked months ago iar uppers were 4300 on gunbroker and only one or 2 in stock nation wide. amazing how prices change so quickly when colt releases there spare contract over runs. if anyone is on the fence jump now as ive seen these uppers rebound in price amazingly quick after they sell out. and yes they actually do retail and sell at the 4300 mark not just asking price but sold for past listings on the hated gunbroker when i searched months ago. verified. the first uppers released onto us civilian market were the usmc trials uppers leftovers after the usmc failed to adopt due to some tricks the marines pulled in order to get their hands on the hk416 never wanting an iar colt to begin with is what ended up being the story. the next over run to hit the us market was the colt iar singapore contract leftovers and then one or likely 2 now big batches of mexican contract leftovers which in my opinion may be what these are. the mexican anti cartel police whatever they are called that ordered these have been pictured with the unusual 11.5'' variant in service already months ago and it would all make sense why no bayonet lugs. heavy hitter anti cartel police likely specified no bayonet lugs or else colt offered. im not an actual colt iar nerd or anything im just noticing things by total accident remembering stuff. its something you guys might want to look into and verify from pics from the ongoing drug war in mexico. good chance the vast majority of colt iar in mexico have no bayonet lug if i had to guess. |

Why are so many people upset about the bayonet lug missing? Why trash AU? These are real Colt IAR uppers manufactured and sold by Colt. because it makes it non- authentic, a real colt IAR has the bayonet lug. It makes it a "Bill Clinton crime bill" gun. |

If you bought one of the new IAR upper receivers and receive it without a bayonet lug, please comment here. I'm curious to see if it is an isolated occurrence or if it happened with all of them. It's not an isolated incident, mine doesn't have the bayonet lug as I thought it would have it. Mine still sealed in the bag, just let me know if you'll get us one that has it, so I'll send mine back. |

| I have the same copy of this 2024 Colt catalog, the guy in the picture probably was a model and never fired a gun before. The older Colt catalogs from the 2010's showed the IAR had the bayonet lug. The Colt IAR upper should have come with a bayonet lug, period. |

You seem to know the in and out of AU, even when their inventory will arrive, so I thought you had some inside connections with AU. |
| Colt probably used up a bunch of their 6940 barrels without lugs instead of making new correct barrels with lugs. But why would they have a bunch of 6940 barrels without lugs, and where were those destined to go? Maybe ban state sales that never materialized? |

But why would they have a bunch of 6940 barrels without lugs, and where were those destined to go? Maybe ban state sales that never materialized? Ban states don't just ban "bayonet lug", they ban a bunch of other stuff with it, so a barrel without the bayonet lug would not qualify it as a "ban state barrel". My guess is Colt workers are being lazy, pinning a bayonet lug on a barrel is not easy, so they try to get away with whatever they can, time is money if you know what I mean. Since they know when comes to non-contract gun parts, civilians don't have the return right, unless it's defective or have safety issues. AU is responsible for false advertising in my view. |
