Hooked up the 3038e to the WG24 stump grinder for the first time. It being overcast and dark in the tractor shed, the new rear facing work lights were handy. Also got to try out the two camera system with the new screen mount. Attached File Attached File Attached File Got to try out the tractor/grinder combo on a big stump group left from our big tree cleanout this year. It was way to tall & wide to try with the 1025R/WG24 combo, roughly 5'x2' & 18"+ on the high side. It's one of those you have to do in layers. The 3038e has way more lift & is a better platform overall. The increased PTO HP is noticable. (sorry no before pic - left phone inside ...) Didn't finish as the rain started back again, so I put things away til later. I'll need to blow some chips out of the way to see where to start. Just offloaded our, "new to us" brush hog yesterday. A friend had an excess of brush hogs and was cleaning up their shop. Did a walk through on it after we got it off the trailer and everything seems to function. Now to pull the service manual, and go through it, do whatever PMs are needed. Semper Fi |

Almost afraid to post after @bansil… I got “my old girl” dirty this weekend mowing a new lot. Some would argue that she’s barely broken in. Bought in 2020 and still has less than 80 hours on her. I’m going to have to downsize my tools in a year or so. I bought a small place to build my retirement home and will move from 10.5 acres to 1. No more cows means no more round bales. No more tilling a big garden that never got enough attention or water. No more fences to stretch. No more fallen trees to drag to the burn pile. Once I get the new place built and greenhouse built, there will be no more random heavy stuff to move, except for pool salt. My zero turn and string trimmer will probably be enough for everything else. If not for the million dollar view and more opportunities for travel, I might miss it enough to cry. |

It has identified as a wheelbarrow the past few weeks. Getting a whole bunch of previously processed wood off the ground and into a drying shed, and stuffing a few newer trees in. 12x16 foot shed for winter of 2025 and 26. The roof isn't needed for seasoning future year's wood, but I may just toss some tin roof panels up there anyways. Attached File Attached File |

This year's wood. Covered and a short walk from the garage man door. The milk crates of kindling is just scraps broken off from proceeessing firewood and/or stacking the older wood.  Partially buried by the dirt work, but they cut this rock to look like NH and left it here.

Spent a chunk of time yesterday running the chainsaw mill slabbing some white oak. 2+" thick slabs were to heavy to move by hand so fired up my Kioti. It made moving the slabs nice and easy. Once the logs were down to size I picked them with the front end loader and stacked them up to feed the sawmill. Semper Fi |

Been slowly creating a stormwater/seasonal runoff retention pond. Probably some happening mosquito habitat too. Currently it's about 20x40' and 3-4' deep on average when you consider the slope. That red strap in the second pic is 20'. It is loosely designed so the overflow point will be similiar to where the original water was flowing so I'm not changing where it goes. Just making it go there late, hopefully stop early, and let the ground downstream hopefully dry out faster. Hope to get it wrapped up tomorrow and then give the tractor a much needed bath and good greasing. Then it's on to a 200' ditch/swale, then another smaller pond, then about 50' of trail to fix hopefully before the end of the month. I have years worth of water management projects to do. The joys of building on vacant land. Oh and that rock is bigger than it looks and the fucking thing is staying right there.  I can drag it, but I don't have the traction to drag it out of the hole and don't feel like doing all the alternative ways of rigging it up/daisy chaining vehicles. Was thinking about dexpan to bust it up, but figure I'll get a cheap sword and stick it in the rock instead. Leave the next owners a mystery.Attached File Attached File |

On Sunday I planted a cover crop of wheat, oats, rye, turnips, radishes, and clover in 23.5 acres of a 27 acre field at a rate of 30 lb/acre. Then I fertilized at 50 lbs N using 24-8-0-2S. Got 2" of rain Monday night.  This drill is a one of a kind 14' no-till drill supposedly built by Graham/Hoeme, but Google knows nothing about it. I bought it by pure chance in poor shape. Not many people no-till around here. Tractor is a 106 hp. It is barely enough to pull the drill. Starting from engaged in a gear suitable for planting is a problem. Starting while the drill is lifted is no problem. I also have poor man's GPS from Trimble EZ-Steer. It works pretty well. Back of the drill showing 20 row units on 8" spacing. Not today, but Sat and then Monday used to pull trees in the right direction when I cut them, and then mount the chipper and dispose of the remnants. New appreciation for what I've picked up over the years, as it was impressive to "town" folk that don't do much outside work. All started when some folk from church were sniffing around about tree services, and were surprised when I wasn't intimidated by the relatively small pine trees. 20-30 ft ish. |
