Variety or small purchases today: Waterproof match container whistle/compass/thermometer. 550rds .22lr. Some fresh electronic ignition components for my '85 C-10. And a tuneup, the used / known-good parts packed away in an ammo can. (2) 5-gal cans cycled through the truck and refilled. Some ammo and reloading components shuffling and shopping lists drawn up. A minor but productive day. ETA: And a note-taking trip through costco Conagra bread flour 25# - $5.15 all-purpose flour 25# - $4.90 C&H Brown Sugar 25# - 12.29 5qt canola oil - $5.89 4# Tuna - $11.49 Have to decide on bulk storage methods before purchasing such things. Might be buckets in a metal locker, in the garage. oh and speaking of bulk storage, Costco had a nice 'gorilla' style metal rack system, Whalen 'Z' Beam, rated at 1500# / shelf, 72x48x18, only $50. Included melamine-faced shelves. I don't think I can build a similar rack from 2x4s, lag bolts and similar sheet matl for less. |

I am starting to get really busy with my preps now. Yesterday I ordered three books, Civic War 2 by Chittum, Wilderness Medicine, Beyond First Aid and Where There is No Doctor, A Village Health Care Handbook. Got all three from Amazon. This evening I am reorganizing my 5 gallon storage buckets. I am taking the boxes of rice dished and am vacuum packing them to save space. I just ordered )2 absorbers and Mylar Bags from Wendy Maes When they come in I'll do bulk rice and beans. Tonight I am going to inventory foods in the buckets and list what is needed to round out meals. I have tomorrow off and will inventory ammo. I ordered 1400 rounds of .45 today, so I'm good with that...after all of this a prep byuddy of mine and i are going to the range to bust some caps. Gotta do range time! Anyway my wife and kids are in FL for a week, so I have a week to get all of this stuff organized before they get back and see that I have the basement and living room and kitchen tore up! |

discovered that the local liquidation world is clearing out old Radio Shack branded stuff. They have a ton of batteries at 75% off. Picked up a bunch today and I think I'll go back tomorrow. My Norinco 870 clone showed up last week too. Now I need to go get more shotgun shells. |

I started a backpack of food for me and my girl. It's all stuff to dress up the 50# of rice we have stocked up, and the many pounds of pasta and sauce sitting there in the pantry. I would conservatively estimate that we have 60 days of food on hand right now, and it's all healthy stuff. Every time we empty out a 2-liter or a bottle of OJ, I fill it up with water and stash it somewhere. I'm pretty sure I'm up to 40 liters or so. More than anyone else I know. Signed up for a fitness class at the local community college. They have a climbing treadmill among other things. Climbing, spinning, lifting, treadmills, elliptical trainers, circuits, all kinds of fun stuff. And, a whopping $20 a semester. Cheap! Took my REI backpack to the REI store and had them sew up the straps and webbing. Should be good as new when I get it back. Google Earth'd my location and a couple of trails in the neighborhood to assess the ascent/descent of a few trails I know. Turns out I have a 2000' elevation change trail very close to me, and that's why it's kind of taxing. Picked up and ate half a bag of roasted soy nuts to eat rather than beef (or lamb) jerkey. Turns out they're OK and I can handle them. Studied my med/surg books on the cardiovascular system, took notes, rewrote some sections of my books. I think that's pretty good for a day. |
I suspect that you will have another large ammo order in your immediate future. |

I taught a CMP high power school to 10 people. 2 Women and 2 other newbies. They had fun. They shot up 500 rounds of ammo in M1s, M1 carbines, an FAL and some ARs. One of the women did over 300 points out of a possible 500, not bad for her second time out. She used an M4 type shorty. Damn I must be a good coach!!!! |

Lessee - Today is my B'day, so I have survived another year. I opened a package from the kids with 5 new G17 mags in it ....I finally sighted in my AR after having the rear sight replaced - my son and I fired a couple of hundred rounds through it. He hasn't been much interested in shooting lately so it was good to get him out there. The wife popped a few of rounds off and acted like she might have a slight case of BRD! All in all a good day. |

Bought a new chainsaw to replace the one stolen in the fall. Repaired a broken barb wire fence. Made a deal with a neighbor, now have two cows, one calf and ond on the way......my "fee' for pasture is a calf. |
Do you really have 20 years experience, or just one year repeated twenty times?

Does watching the movie "300" count? Seriously, though. Sometimes mental prep can be the most important keystone in the whole survival scheme. Filling my head with tales of courage, honor, standing up for what's right, etc. is IMHO way better than the garbage that's on MTV and most of the crap filling the radio, TV, and whatever's on those little handheld electronic gizmos that people seem to have nowadays. |
|
Absolutely Nothing.. I am already to the point that I no longer have room to store the preps. 160sq Ft of floor space stacked almost 6Ft high of long term storage food, and another pantry 120sq ft stacked over 6Ft high... The wife has issued threats of bodily harm if I keep on bringing home stuff for "storage" ![]() c0 98% of the population is asleep. The other 2% are staring around in complete amazement, abject terror, or both. falloutshelter653.org |

Don't remember what they would fit. I just finished a lower for my AR #2 gun. I also got a box of springs, detents, etc. from BM. I have cataloged them and seperated them in little plastic tubes and am making a list of what I have and what I need, to be purchased systematically in the coming months. | It's a warm pre-spring day, so I'm in the garage inventorying my food, water, meds, batteries, and gear. I cycled the rations out of my BOB this weekend (fed the kids tuna, chicken, ramen, spam, etc.). |

Increased my 40 S&W ammo by 500 rds. 300 fmj / 200 jhp. Reading book on Emergency Medical procedures. Contacted BIL in GA about those 200 rd value-paks of Federal .223 50gr that I can't seem to find down here in So. Fla. post 223 / had to make it ammo related somehow... |
| Put two inches worth of lift on the BOV and bruised a knuckle. Read a bit of my FCC Element 3 (General) license prep book. I'll be testing in two more weeks ... my dang schedule is chock a block until then. Bought a MFC-like water can. |

Extended my gas line in my house to put in a gas wall heater. Good if there is a short term power outage during the winter, and I don't feel like jumping to hook up the generator. Working on more preps, but trying to do one small thing every month or so. That way I don't get burnt out on it, and the cost is spread out over time... Mournsword |
|
Finished building two new ARs for a couple of buddies. Then I took them to a local range and spent several hours teaching them the basics. Ended up giving them two 30 rd mags each and a few hundred rounds of ammo. I think they have the bug. Both want me to take them to the gun show next weekend and help them get some more stuff. May be the best prep thing I've done in a long time. John |

Serviced the generator, changed the oil, cleaned the air filter, cleaned the spark plug, drained the float bowl and cleaned it, and while doing that I noticed that the fuel line was starting to show some cracking so I replaced it. While replacing the fuel line I found that it went to a vacum operated fuel shut off that had a total of three hoses and six hose clamps. It allows fuel flow via a vacum swithc when the engine is running. There is already a fuel shut off under the tank and a float in the carb regulates the fuel going to the carb. This was a complicated, redundant, unnecessary component so I took it off and connected the fuel line directly to the carb, thus eliminating something that could start leaking, break, or clog up when I really needed the generator. Best Regards, HTG |

I got a cleaning kit and tablets for my wife's and my Camelback water bladders. Also, not exactly prep related; but, I got a lightweight travel jacket (like a sportcoat) to allow me better CCW carry options. ETA: I almost forgot. I got a new heater. It is a military "space heater, small". It is used to heat the various large tents the military has. It will burn just about any flammable heater. It came with the stove pipe and a manual. It's a good thing is has the manual as I've never seen one like it before. I got a very good deal on it too. The whole set up ( did I mention it is brand new) was only $50. |
"That others might live."

I finished vacuum packing my rice and beans, then I mylar sealed them with O2 removers for storage in the 5 gal buckets. Filled my new Shimano reel with 6lb test line. This reel will go on the pack rod I just got in. Didn't have the time or the will to reorganize my pack today, that will be another project....especially the first aid portion of the pack. I ordered SAS Survival Handbook. I have the larger version , I ordered the "pocket" size for my pack. |
|
Bought two more 1-1/2 lb. canned hams, bought four more boxes of Mac and Cheese @ $.50 a box. On my way home I'll pick up some vacuum packed Maxwell house coffee - buy one, get one free. Tonight when I get home, I'll continue working on my prep room where all of my food and gear is stored. |

Turned the garden and raised beds. Took a 2+ mile hike with the wife and kids, looking for deer sheds/cool junk. Started a fire in the pit burning up some old red oak fence board scraps, and cooked hot dogs and beans on it.. Then just sat back, listening to the thousands of geese heading north, and the red winged blackbirds calling down by the pond! |
| matched up any and all long johns with fleece shirts and pants ,then matched THEM up with field coats and winter issue pants with a pair of heavy wool socks all folded up and placed in the zippered plastic bags that bedding comes in. those are then put on the shelves in my Y2K [ survival] stash in the basement. any sweat shirts and sweat pants are then matched up and put in the big plastic storage totes along with wool army sweaters. also purchased a rechargeable lantern and extra bulbs, counted and arranged canned food as to expiration date.bought another bottle or two of lamp oil, deoderant and shampoo. i'm constantly buying supplies on a weekly basis and organizing as i go along. |
