Great bucks guys!
Our 1st 3 day gun season opens Friday. Missed this weekends bow hunt, battling the kidney stones! I was not aware that Indiana allows rifle hunting? Pistol, shotgun slug or black powder gun hunting only in my goofy state. But we get to shoot 2 antlered animals each year. |

Yes, Indiana was a shotgun state until three seasons ago, when they legalized certain rifles for deer. The length of the empty brass must fall between 1.16" and 1.625", and the bullet diameter must be .357" or greater. The .458 SOCOM has a brass length of 1.575" and a bullet diameter of .458", so it meets the legal requirements. We used to be allowed to take a buck with a bow and another with a firearm, but for almost a decade now, we have been restricted to one buck a year with any legal weapon. |

Remington 887 Nitro Mag Tactical. Winchester Super X 3" rifled slug. I did not shoot this guy in the neck. Kill shot was at 40yds and running away from me, placed a round in his back to drop him in his tracks. As i approached he scared the crap out of me,flailed, and I put one in his neck, instinct. Note, I learned my lesson and will never shoot a dear in the neck again. 140lbs at the butcher, 8 pt. My buddy shot at him twice, one round hit his antler, the other completely missed. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n84/Dropyerjaw/First%20Deer%20and%20New%20shotgun/IMG_0410.jpg |

from one new hunter to another, it's not considered very ethical to take a shot at a running deer by some. I'm glad you got him. Shame what happened to his rack. At least you have some meat in the freezer. |
