Howdy all. Time to invest in some new boots. Considering danner all leather for this winter. They sure aren't cheap.
For those who wear em', are they worth the price?

Yes they are worth it. I get issued Danner by the USMC and they are the best boots I have ever worn. I am all about the Danner RAT, and Acadia. Last deployment I alternated between a pair of Danner Acadia, RAT, and a pair of Blackhawks. What style are you looking at?

Mine that I bought for work were extremely heavy compared to others, not insulation wise, just heavy

They are nice, but I fuck up boots in a year no matter what brand they are.

I really liked my danners too. I brushed them clean frequently (every 2-3 days) and applied polish every sunday night before work... every other sunday maximum.

And then the fucking sole ripped off them when I was in Waco shooting the Tactical Team 3 gun.

I got mad and threw them fuckers away so I didn't have to haul them home. Should I have resoled them? Maybe. But I wasn't happy.

I like them, I had one problem with a pair. Something was bunched up under my toe, I called them and they emailed me a FexEx label to return them, they replaced them with a new pair. If you require a wide size Danner is the way to go, I have and will buy again. There are plenty of other good boots out there also, Red Wing, Whites....USA made will be evident by the price $300+.

Very happy with them. The light running-shoe type boots kept my feet warm working outside on the North Slope in the winter at 6 hour stretches. They lasted for about 6 years.

My buddy loved them, then he tried Wolverine Durashocks on my suggestion.

Now he wares those exclusively as I do. (we both stand on are feet all day)

Not sure for cold weather though.

Danner's are good to go. Most boots don't last more than a 9 months with me but my Danner Acadia's have last more than two years.

Well worth the money. I am on my second pair of strikers in about 6 years. The first pair is still servicable, but I got issued a second pair so I wear them now. They are light enough, water proof and comfortable. I had about a 6 month stint with a pair of blackhawk boots that were supposed to be waterproof. They weren't, smelled like ass after they dried and the soles fell off.

Agreed, at least they have some, most companies only offer EE or no wide sizes at all. Buying sneakers is even more annoying as New Balance is one of the few with wide options.

Boots. Doesn't matter how much you spend on them, if they hurt your feet it was too much.

My feet suck, and Merrell is about the only thing I can wear as far as a hiking boot goes. Better boots out there, sure, but they're worthless to me if they hurt.

That's pretty much why I don't go around making blanket recommendations about boots. What works for one person may not work for another.

I've thought of trying them, but all I can find locally are the Chinese made Danners. I need a good steel toe with a wide toe box.

Absolutely. It depends on your foot, if Danners don't work with your feet, you won't like them. If they are the right boot for your foot, they are awesome. You really need to wear several boots before you decide on one. Finding the right boot is important.

You're in TX for Christ's sake. Get original OD jungle boots for under thirty bucks and a pair of goretex socks for the winter when it gets wet. I wore them in the winter in GE when not in the field. In the field I wore Herman Survivors. Hermans aren't what they used to be. Ft. Lewis boots are the shit in real winter. They cost 130 bucks back in 1984.
You do not need a Ft. Lewis boot in TX.

Well, Im in Oklahoma, and Danners are absolutely worth the money. GI Jungle boots are pieces of shit.

Before I finally got a pair of Danners, I would completely trash a pair of duty boots every six months. I mean, flopping sole, blow stitches trashed. My Acadias are nearing four years of every day wear, and are just now to the point of needing a resole.

They are the best boots I have ever owned.

I have a pair of acadias that are four years old. i wore them every day in concrete. these boots look new and my aching foot problems went away.

In mid 2008 I bought a pair of Danners. I wore them every day during my deployment in Iraq where I went on a mission 6 days a week for a year straight.

I still wear them today and they are just as comfortable as they were 3 1/2 years ago.

I love my Mtn Lite II's , but they arent insulated so useless hunting right now . I wear my Chippewas and they are every bit as comfy , and warm . . . . and also US made .

I refuse to buy chi-com boots any more.

Every penny. I've got 3 working pairs right now. Been Danner only since the 90s. I'm on my feet, in the woods cruising timber most of the time and Danner is tops.

Which ones? They must have been duds. Even the Chinese strikers usually last me at least two years and the only issue I have had with the US made Acadias was the sole separating after three years. Boot was in pretty good shape with some slices in the leather but all in all, just needed a re-sole.

I say they are worth the money.

Last year on this site, somebody posted a code for a one day only friends and family 50% off sale Danner was having that apparently the whole internet found out about. I jumped on it immediately because I wanted to replace my 10 y/o worn out Wolverines (pictured below). Danner didn't mean for the sale to be available to just anyone, but surprisingly they honored my order of a pair of US made Super Rainforest boots for $160 (or thereabouts). To me that showed that they are one class act as a company. When I got them I was blown away by the superb quality of construction too. They fit me perfect and they have just the right amount of insulation for me as a winter boot. They are very heavy though, so I only wear them in outdoor muck mud or snow.
