It's time I set my 1895 up and I could use a little inspiration.

So if you'd be so kind, post 'em up!

I don't have a picture of my 1894, but it's factory.

Mine's the same. I'd like to add some glass, a sling and maybe a shell pouch.

Would like to see how some here have theirs set up.

It's my 1895gs and my 39a .When I first bought the 45/70 I wanted to keep iron sights and I even bought XS sights for it but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with them.
I'm getting a little older and my eyesight isn't great so I scoped it with a Leupold 3x9 compact I had laying around that I had on a Ranch rifle I sold a while back.
It's working out great with the scope even though I like the looks of a lever gun better with out a scope.

What kind of rail is that, and did yours come with an extended mag tube or did you put it on?

That's an XS rail, but the gun came from the factory as pictured. I would suggest buying a PRE-Remington gun, though. Marlin's QC has slipped badly in the past few years.

I don't have any pics of my model 94 handy, but like one of the posters above I set it up with an XS ghost ring sight, and a short scout-type rail. I couldn't hit squat with the factory leaf sight and forward blade - I didn't think the ghost would make much of a difference, but it's a night-and-day change.Good enough that I haven't bothered to put a scope on it yet.

This is my Marlin 336 in  30-30. I have lost count of how many deer I have killed with it but the number is probably close to 100. In my area you can shoot 3 antlerless deer a day during regular gun and we don't buy meat. I got it at a pawn shop for $169 bucks and put the scope on it. It shoots way better than it is supposed to.

The lever gun makes a tremendous amount of sense within it's range of about 200 yards. You can shoot them farther but most shots will be within that range in this area. How can you beat a gun that is 3 feet long, easy to carry, light, and launches a 170 grain projectile? The lever is fading away though. Promo bolt guns with cheap scopes are cheaper than a lever with no scope and chamber cartridges that are superior to the 30-30 at long range so they get the nod when it is time to lay down the cash most of the time.

Better get a good one while you can. The Marlins are all that's left really.

The Marlin 39A is a fine rifle as well. Here is one of my daughters and one of our friends a long time ago on a coon hunt. That 39A is another pawn shop special that has really been a great gun. Levers rule.

Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag. It's one of the rifles made since Remington bought Marlin. Runs and shoots fine.

Rossi M92 in .357. Just got it Thursday, haven't shot it yet.

Winchester 9422 XTR Classic in .22 LR.

1978 vintage Marlin 336 in .30-30. I've since removed the Eagle stock pack because it made it hard to use the iron sights.

How do you like it?  Have you tried .38 as well as .357 through it?  I started hankering for a stainless lever action (in .357/.38) and came across the 1894 CSS from Marlin only to find out they stopped making them a few years back, but have yet to update their website.  I'm curious about the Rossi as they seem to be the only game in town, but from what I gather putting a scope on the 92-style is slightly more difficult than an 1894.

I have the 20" model. Runs great with .38 spl and .357. There is a thread in the lever guns forum titled "prettiest Rossi 92" with some good info on sights.
