While driving through towns and cities both large and small across basically half the country, we saw school mascots emblazoned on everything from water towers to business signs to vehicle license plates and stickers. We even saw stuff on barn roofs and picked out in Christmas lights on billboards. There were tigers and spartans and falcons and leprechauns and all kinds of other only vaguely identifiable entities. So, I got to thinking, what is the most popular school mascot? Or better yet, what SHOULD be the most popular school mascot? What say the hive?

I read a few years ago, The most pop were Tiger, Bears, Indians and Birds.

In Texas, Bulldogs, Eagles, etc are very popular.
There are some very unique ones, too, e.g.: Winters Blizzards Hutto Hippos Killeen Kangaroos Frost Polar Bears Hamlin Pied Pipers Van Vandals Itasca Wampus Cats ETA: one of my favorites, and soooo controversial, Hereford Whitefaces (if you know cattle, you'll get it) |

We were the Bulldogs
A local HS here is the Imps, how fucking embarrassing |

I went to two high schools, the first was the Warriors, the second was the Falcons.
Now for the really goofy bit. The First High School was General HH (Hal Hap) Arnold High School, Weisbaden Germany, HH Arnold was a WWII Air Force hero, and was a large part of developing the air force strategy post WWII. My second High School was Ft. Campbell High School, Ft. Campbell, Ky. So, at the high school named after a famous Air Force General we had a mascot more appropriate for the Army, at Ft. Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, we were the Falcons, the same mascot as the US Air Force. |

We were the Trojans...you know those guys that lost in the Iliad

My grade school mascot was the Crusaders. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
I'll have to check to see if the PC police got a hold of that one. ETA: Nope, still the Crusaders. |

The Florida Gator of course!
Eventhough we had a rough night the other night. I found a new recipe for Gator cookies: Put them in a sugar bowl and beat them for 3 hours! |

I would be shocked if it wasn't an Indian, and probably could get more specific and say "The Redmen".

I went to 3 high schools, hawks, golden eagles, wildcats. The wildcats were better at football for what it's worth.

I had a college buddy who swore up and down that his high school played another school with an asparagus as its mascot.
Go, Fighting Asparagus! |
