i love this kind of stuff.

The US military is last redoubt of the old time anglo saxon victorian ideal of physical courage.

In 1850, if you were a gentleman and somebody called you a coward, one of you was going to have to die.

this kind of thing is a remaining vestige of that attitude.

Actually stock car racing is also based on it, it's literally a contest of who can push the envelope the most.

Seems like I've read of guys (maybe Marcinko) drinking cobra venom in Vietnam.  I'd probably do that before drinking the blood.

I'm not a herpetologist, but fairly certain most blood born diseases in reptiles wouldn't survive a trip through the hydrochloric acid in your stomach.

And yeah, I still eat my steak Rare.

yeah, a woman who drinks cobra blood is probably not going to be adverse to improvised protein feeding

Actually, the Bible prohibits drinking blood, the flesh is for consumption but the blood is the life, it belongs to God.

If God wants some he can kill his own snake... Rumor has it, his Garden has at least one in it that could've used some killin' before it fucked things up...

That is pretty tame compared to what a lot of marines do.

Usually they get it out of there system before they make SSgt though.

I would think that many microbes/ parasites wouldn't even have to get into your stomach; a cut in your mouth or lip would be enough to enter your bloodstream.
But I'm no expert ,either.  I have no idea what pathogens snakes may or may not carry.
(And I bet those people don't, either.)
