around 2000 when i was a kid i remember seeing something similar to this about regular police and swat dude in SA. one thing i found interesting was that dispite whites being shit on in that country they were the only ones going into the super swat team. they were fucking badass. one dude was like 20 seconds late to work so he was written up and had to climb a 25ish story building in full gear several times as punishment.

one call they went to they were meet with with the regular police holding suspects for them. after interrogation they ended up arresting the black police officer because HE was the one who commited the crime and tried to fuck some regular joe. interesting place

They say that Margret thatcher did that with an SAS shoothouse back in the 80s. The SAS anti-terrorism team was doing a shoot house and bust in a room with live fire and unknown to the soldiers she was sitting there at a table and did not flinch a muscle when they came in firing in her direction.

I remember a scene from that documentary where the SA cop was topping off some mags for his para-FAL that he carried....

Like it was an every day thing!! (and he did get in that shoot out where the car flips).

With what these guys are up against I don't see how they could follow any other ROE. They are basically military special forces fighting a low level insurgencay in the form of rampant, violent organized crime.

I was surprised how realitively gentle they are with suspects during cuffing and how docile the suspects were during apprehension. They also were not cuffing right away. I believe this is because the suspects know they will simply be shot if they resist or run.

The documentary on them is definitely worth watching. One of the more worked swat teams for sure.... I am always amazed by their lack of armor/equipment. Most of the mall ninjas here have 2x as much gear/ammo as those guys who actually see action on a frequent basis.

A former member of these units told me that within three days of graduating from the academy, every officer has been in at least one gunfight.

Reflect back to the thread about the U.S. being the epicenter of handgun martial arts, or whatever it was. Our LEO have nothing on these guys.

I am quite thankful that police officers in the US use their pens more than their guns. Spent a month in Iraq on FOB gate guard rotation. Both our K9 handlers were former South African cops. They said everyone who is white who can leave is. The crime is terrible there and it is everywhere.

Those guys don't fuck around, from what I saw. The experience they go through puts them on a whole other skill level than most regular everyday cops. I'm glad though, I can't imagine having that kind of crime in my neighborhood everyday.

Considering a average carjacking happens every 3.5 seconds in SA and usually the thugs are armed with AK47'S I can see why these guys are the way they are. They are right up there with Russian Police services.

In one of the vidoes linked the bank robber/hastage takers called a local radio station and when the radio station told them the special task force was about to come in after them they surrendered... because they knew it meant being killed.

I don't know the numbers but I am very sure that Joburg is whiter than Detroit.

I have some stories to tell from Johannesburg and the police there. I won't derail this thread with them. When I get the chance in the next couple days I will start one.
