Still own my first car I bought in 1991. 1978 Buick Regal. I can cruise around in a 70's land yacht any time I want. Granted, this land yacht runs 10's..........

my first car was a 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Brougham. while maybe not a land yacht, it was definitely a big comfy couch on wheels.
looked almost exactly like this one. 
the first car I remember my parents having was an early 80's oldsmobile station wagon. dont remember the exact year but pretty sure it was a cutlass cruiser. kinda like this but it was all brown

1973 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon...
I was playing bass in a band at the time. That car went everywhere. A few years later I traded it for an International Scout SS II 4WD. |

I never owned a land yacht. but I did sport one of these back in the
late 80's that I took a road trip or two in..Not my car but it is it's twin down to year,the colors and AC .  |

1995. Took a trip to Indy for work in my 220D, four people in the car and it was great. Same car that my father bought 4 months before I was born. Worst thing I have ever done in my life was to sell that car. ETA: Stock photo, not my 220D |

Typical GD thread people posting cars that are not land yachts. The old man had a 70 Chrysler Newport Convertible that he replaced his 57 Coupe DeVille with. He had thought about buying the Eldorado ( a convertible) which he actually did in 1976. I remember many sunday drives in those cars.

I cruise in one every time I head home...
1985 Buick LeSabre 4 Door. Hood and trunk are long enough to serve as picnic tables. interior can seat 4 normal Americans in Lazy-boy seat comfort. This was my first car, and I haven't let my parents get rid of it. Just got her running good about a year ago. really needed tires and rims so went up a bit on size (rim size went to 17" instead of 15", slightly wider too), but I found tires that kept the overall diameter the same as OEM. Next restoration steps are redo interior and paint. I'm having problems finding a replacement dashboard (just old and beaten down by the sun). Best part is that I got Texas classic car plates now, so no more state inspections! Car has the old reliable Olds 307 motor. Not to big on horsepower but pretty good on torque. Back in the day my dad and I had the motor rebuilt and we told them to bore it out as much as they can so its a little peppier. Dual exhaust with old school glass packs, bigger 4 barrel carb...fun times! Dream car of the era is still a 1987 Buick Regal GNX Grand National....or I'd like to mod my Buick to perform like this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdYDqt7q32g |

About 15 years ago, I bought a 1979 Bonneville Safari station wagon for $400. It was running OK but with the typical problems of a 20-year-old GM land yacht. I painted it black, put on a new set of wheels and tinted the windows. I used it as a beater and to make trips to the lake towing my ski boat. The A/C finally gave out and that heralded the beginning of the end for the Virgin Killer. In the end I sold it for salvage and got $150 out of it.

Closest I had was one of these, mine was grey. 1978 Plymouth Fury I got in 1987 with 32k miles on it. Couldn't tell ya how many times my friends and I piled in it to go where ever we felt like. I got rear ended one day. The car that hit me was pretty messed up, whole front end was wrecked. My rear bumper had a dent in it about the size of a fifty cent coin and was pushed in about an inch on one side.
 Rust killed it long before the drivetrain was ready to give up.

1982, we borrowed my Grandma's 1980 Olds Delta 88 because the AC wasn't working in our car. We went to Disneyworld over Thanksgiving break.

My go to Pussy Mobile in the late 70's was a 1966 Buick LeSabre 4 door.It was about 40 feet long,had a giant ass trunk for the coolers,a huge back seat for the 3 or 4 skanks we'd pile in (hell,me and my buddies weren't exactly prizes,either) and a 340 V-8.The old man I bought it from had painted it with surplus Navy gray paint,with a big paint brush.It would routinely throw hubcaps off for no reason at all.It was fast,and handled like a beached whale in curves.It was great.I sold it for 250 dollars,the same price I paid for it.It had no hubcaps left on it.

St Louis, the Mississippi, The Dakotas, Yellow Stone, the Grand Tetons, Reno, Kings Canyon, LA ( to See Pops Sister), Yosemite, The Grand Canyon, The Painted Desert, Texas, The Ozarks, Louisiana, and home to Florida. Living in the 455 Oldsmobile powered Monstrosity and sleeping in the Pop-up camper we towed behind us.
I ended up Driving it for a few years in my late teens until the Timing chain let go at 135,000. Tough to go on dates in, but plenty of room for action if you got them talked into it......

Somewhere around 2002-2003, my cousin purchased a 1972 Sedan Deville with a 472 big block. We (along with my brother and other cousin) all lived in an apartment in Bowling Green at the time, and took this yacht on a couple road trips into Michigan and Indiana. At 8 miles to the gallon, though, he didn't keep it long. Man, talk about a smooth and comfortable car.

I lived a sheltered childhood. Many short trips, but nothing over 3hrs with my family. I did plenty of long buss rides though.
So my answer is none, yet. I think their is a fairly good chance, however, that I will yet buy a definitive 70's era land yacht and do some epic road trips with it.

I went camping with my grandparents quite a bit when I was a kid. Imagine this thing pulling a 26' camper all up and down the East Coast. 73 Chrysler.
This was the car (exactly like) I learned to drive on, when I was 11. My sister jumped this car all the time and got a solid 6+ FEET of air under the tires. It hit the ground, scooping up chunks of asphalt w/ the frame. The engine began leaking oil really bad the last few years we had it. One day my mother was on her way to work when a firetruck turned in behind her & hit the lights/sirens. She floored it thinking she could beat it to work. Well, it kept up with her and pulled into her parking lot. Turns out, "The Grenade" as we called it, was on fire from leaking oil. They put it out and we continued to drive it for a few years after. It was the last of the Detroit steel. 81 Ford Grenada.
