How often and where do you typically see this setup?
Typical use? |
|
My friend Burt has one. He used it to take care of some pest problem once.
|
|
I own a couple; keep 'em in the basement -- I do .
Mostly just hang wet clothes out to dry on them; with the cost of ammo and such. |
|
I know I want one. Shooting a single Ma Deuce was big fun, shooting 4 at once would be Bigger Fun |

Anti-Aircraft in WWII and Korea.
They were still around for some badass suppression fire in Vietnam. |
|
|
Never seen one in action but I bet it makes a hell of a mess

Back in the 1990s Dillon Precision had a "Machine Gun Magic" video that featured one. VHS it was.

My father in law has mentioned them a few times, said they had them in the corners of their firebase perimeter. He noted that they really lit things up until they were overrun during Tet. That happens to be the same time and pace he earned his BSM w/V and PH.

My old friend Rich (RIP) was a gunner on a quad .50 halftrack in World War II. He was part of an anti-aircraft artillery battalion, but by the time they got into action, in Belgium, there were few aircraft to fire on. So, they accompanied infantry and served as scouts. He said they would approach little Belgium towns full of Germans and "hose them down".
He was deaf as a doornail, having sat too long next to Ma Deuce dishing it out. |

Quad Ma Deuces would be impressive, but I think that the GAU-19 is a worthy successor.

My dad told me that was one of the most awesome sounds of Vietnam.

I shot Dillon's at a SP Crater shoot. Like being in your own earthquake. It was....fun. View Quote Ahhhhh, SP Crater [actually, "Shit Pot" Crater on older maps]....those were the days! When a "large" shoot was like 25 guys (and Julie). Several great years shooting there until they picked up and moved to `The Sandy. |

The French had a couple at Dien Bien Phu. They were instrumental in holding the Viet Minh off as long as they did.

A guy brings one to our annual mg shoot pretty much every year. It is a hoot to watch him destroy cars with it!

There was a guy with one in a half-track who used to bring it to Knob Creek every year. Haven't seen him/it the last few times I've been.

I have a buddy that was in 'Nam and said you could "log" with one of them.

Worked with a good guy out of Burk Burnett, TX who was a Korean War Vet. One Saturday morning we were talking and somehow we got onto the topic of the Korean War.
He sort of rambled on about a few things and then mentioned the quad .50 and hordes of Chinese streaming at his unit's position. He said he'd never forget that because it was a huge mess and they kept coming but those M2s kept them back enough so they could fall back into a secondary defensive postion. I can only imagine. |

View Quote A guy that went to my church was in Korea and ran the M2 during his time. He said it wasn't effective just for mass attacks, but long range shooting too. He said one time his unit was waiting for the Chinese to attack, and he kept seeing a guy stick his head out of a embankment around 1000yds away. It was a Chinese scout with binoculars trying to get the US position and defenses determined. He trained his M2 on the guy and fired a short burst one of the times he stuck his head out. Guess he got him as he never stuck his head out again. |

Other than the cool factor (which is off the fucking chart), the introduction of a reliable high-ROF .50 like the GAU-19 pretty much makes the quad obsolete. But still fucking epic. |

I remember watching a VHS my dad had when I was a kid with quad 50s and RC planes being shot down, never could figure out what it was. Now I know!! Thanks! |

I can't imagine being the mook responsible for keeping those things fed, tho.
They can't be handy in a firefight while you're trying to swap ammoboxes times four. I never figured out the logistical nightmare on that. |

As seen at the Colling's Foundation's "Battle for the Airfield" several years back.
If you live anywhere near there you should really go. Excellent time. From a thread I started back in 2011 Battle For The Airfield |
