Never. The MD-ADS has never been $89

Because they're new.  When the market is saturated with them and they're taking up shelf space, they'll blow some out cheap. I'll be waiting.

I wish I would have bought a few more of the original Microdots when they did that.

I got a brand new HoloSun HS403A for $123.99 shipped. Shitty part was they came on sale a day after I ordered a PA AMD for $152.54 shipped. Needless to say the PA got cancelled.

ETA The PA AMD wasn't ordered at PA.

They've been out coming up on 2 years... they have problems keeping them in stock. With the new models coming out (70k hour battery life, lifetime warranty and one with the ACSS reticle) I don't think these will be around if they sell out again.

They're tough as shit with incredible battery life, but even Marshall will tell you - if you're using it for duty get the Aimpoint.

I use it on my HD rifle and it's been kicking for over a year and a half. Survived some drops at the range. I tend to not drag my rifles behind me on dirt roads or run them over, though

Not quite. Diminishing returns. If your life isn't on the line and you already have a few quality optics, getting 85% of the quality for 25% of the cost is worth it. In all honesty, I'd rather outfit 4 rifles with the ADS than one with a T1. Or one rifle with a case of ammo and 20 mags than one T1 and no ammo

I have three Aimpoints and three Advanced Micro Dots. Honestly, there's probably no difference to the casual user. The glass on the current MD-ADS is comparable to a T1, but not as good as a T2.

Full disclosure, I had one micro dot that was DOA, and replaced immediately by PA. Since then I haven't had one issue with moderately heavy use. My home defense gun wears an Aimpoint, but if PA was all I could afford I wouldn't have any problems running it.

Sure, except that wasn't the question. In a apples to apples side by side comparison between the two there is no comparison. One is an escort, the other Lamborghini.

The Scorpion needs a RDS on a riser after installing a Zhukov stock. This will fit the bill there nicely.

I have a few of the $89 dollar sights and other than the shorter battery life, they're good to go.

I forgot, I have the advanced micro dot on my Scorpion too.

It does work very well with it, although I'd say not nearly as hard use as the M92.

and you could say the Lamborghini needs tons of maintenance which costs 1000s of dollars a year, and the escort just keeps on running. its not a very good analogy

Furthermore, you can abuse the escort and take it on rough dirt roads and it will hold together just fine.  Abuse the Lamborghini a little on a rough dirt road, and it will rip off some air splitters, fascias, and probably break.  Who wants to work with tools that break when used hard.

A Ford Escort is cheaper, more reliable, less finicky, and easier to repair. A Lamborghini is fast, flashy, and designed to compete with a Ferrari based on bravado and appearance rather than performance.

Wait, which optic is which car?

I just read the reviews and one reviewer mentioned worthless in bright sunlight. I removed my burris and flipped up the buis due to this very issue. Even if overcast and shooting on snow the dot would disappear. Any red dots made that would work in the conditions in my ao, or do I need something with an illuminated etched reticle?

I've been seeing these for under $200. Bushnell 1-4 throw down
