Thinking about some new wall art, something with retro/vintage aircraft. What better example of a classic iconic airplane than a Boeing B-17. Open to other suggestions as well. Figured some of our members will have some neat suggestions.

Rather than pictures of entire airplanes, I like the idea of specific perspectives like radial engines/propellers, exterior views of cockpits, etc. like these:

Not what I want to hang on a wall, but every time I look through B-17 pictures and seeing what shape of them returned in it's hard to believe what tough bird it was. Seriously, how did some of these keep flying?

No, it's upside down and spinning. Crew is probably pinned to the walls by centrifugal force knowing they will die

That B-17 on its back with half a wing gone, isn't coming back
And I doubt any were able to bail out

All the years those men gave up, had taken away, the debt they paid, only to be squandered by the lowest common denominator 60 years later.   And they don't care either.

Not sure, but this is the photo series where the bomb hit the real horizontal stabilizer

The "B-17" sequence in the animated movie Heavy Metal is pretty impressive.

Not the entire sequence, but

Most don't know SB-17Gs saw use in Korea, not only for rescue but for dropping commandos and other clandestine forces. They were refitted with most of their guns, except the distinctive chin turret was replaced with radar

SB-17s were passed on to the USCG,the last one retired in 1959,with it's C-130 replacement

If you're interested in B-17 or the bomber campaign over Europe, the following book is very good.
I ready it in middle school and reread it recently, I think I got it for my kindle.

These guys had balls of steel, the attrition rate was horrific

Really nice art type shot.

The CIA flew an all black painted -17 in Vietnam.  Supposedly they thought the North would not recognize it as an American plane.

Aviation Movie Geek Fact - The B-52 shots in Dr. Strangelove often show the Shadow of a B-17 camera plane (as the film was taken by a B-17 and played back at much faster speeds with a model B-52 in the shot to make it look like Major Kong's B-52  fly fast & low on the deck... - "

From my parking lot at work a few months back.

I live right behind Hooks airport which is home to the B-17 Texas Raiders. I get to watch (and hear) her take off and land numerous times almost every weekend.
