Then I really don't care.

I am using the wolf stuff to just break in the gun.  Once it is shooting well (if it ever does) I won't use it anymore.

Though I won't worry about my groups.

call back 2 weeks later asking if switching to a 16" would ship faster,.....she says 6-8 more weeks either way

not acceptable for an off the shelf barrel

Fuck that.

If you're talking about the Cabela's in Garner (the only Cabela's in NC) then they only have the two Hornady loads as of yesterday. I was down there picking up some hunting ammo before the season kicks in and remembered to take a look see for this thread. I didn't pay any attention to the Creedmore other than noticing they had several loads.

It's starting to feel like the thread is getting far away from the original question in OP.

Mine had a end cap rack for special gold medal match cartridges with Berger bullets.  But the 6.5 g slot hasn't had anything in it the last 4 times I checked.

Someone with more experience than me will chime in but I'd think an undersized bullet may not be the best for breaking in a barrel.

If breaking in a barrel means firing some rounds to burnish the bore then an undersize bullet would minimize that effect while maximizing copper deposits on one side of the lands from slippage and (maybe) increasing gas erosion or gas cutting leading to more coppering of the barrel around a loose fitting bullet.

So, I took my new 6.5 Grendel upper out today, it is a Bear Creek Arsenal upper 16" a govt profile contour and nitrided.  I was shooting 123 AMAX factory loads.  The trigger is a Geisele SS E.  The FH is a YHM with a YHM Ti 762 Phantom.

My first target with the suppressor on looked like Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were out at the range with a shotgun.  That is a 10 round group.  I decided to try it without the suppressor, the second target which shot high of the POA grouped vastly better (the flyers were me, not the most steady). Not sure why that is happening.

I was thinking of trying my Recce 7 but wanted it lighter for hunting, plus I had the mount already.  Might try buying a mount for my Recce and try it.  I have used the YHM on a bolt gun, Ruger GSR in 308, and it worked great.

How does YHM's mount work? Could it be not quite engaging the last tooth if it has them? It doesn't obviously wobble does it?  Could you use a strap wrench (HF has 2/$5, also works well to install LT quadrails) to tighten it to make sure it is tight?

No wobble, it was on tight.  Found out that most of the QD mounts need a minimum of a .720 shoulder to index off of, the shoulder on this is .700.

Just curious for those who shot Wolf in their Grendels, what does your groups look like at 100 yards?  I'm wondering if I have a bad lot and should attempt to purchase another case.

I shot them in both my 18" JP Enterprise barrel and Faxon 12" barrel with terrible results.

Buy precision ammo if you want precision.

It has nothing to do with buying cheap or precision ammo, I was look for approximation of what everyone is seeing with wolf with various barrels.

Also helps prevent people from buying crappy  ammo because over 6" at 100 yards is garbage for any ammo.

Finished putting this together last night.  I have only run 9 round through her (the only C product 6.5 mag I own) to function test.  It was the "undersized" stuff from Wolf.  It did function and lock back on last round but I did not have my scope zeroed and did not put out any targets.  I'm probably going to move the scope a little further up in the mount.

12.5" Ballistic Advantage barrel, bolt, and bcg at her heart, Colt upper and "Holland" accessories.

I have been waiting about 2 months now for some of the 25 round E Lander magazines, but may have some 17 rounders in bound.

With the reports of the Wolf bullets being undersized what are your guys general "groups"?  I am not worried about precision too much, but if it's a 6" + grouping I may reconsider buying 1000 more rounds of it.

People who have been shooting Wolf have been reporting 2-3" groups, at the worst. Generally.

It shoots really well for some folks. Like 1.5".

Let us know how it shoots with wolf... I was hoping to have somewhat good luck with it but was not the case for my two barrels.

I was trying to figure out if was a crappy lot of wolf ammo and buy a different case or if this is the norm.  I don't want to waste another 135 dollars on ammo I can't even determine where it is going at 100 yards.

Looks like I will stick with black 123gr for my grendel shooting.  I getting under 1 moa in both barrels.

My notes are in a box somewhere but from what I remember it seems like it did. I use base-to-ogive measurements, so it's going to be the same regardless, but I wanna say that COAL measurements were pretty close if not the same between the two. If anything it seemed like the ELD-M's were much more consistent.

Like I said, it's voodoo BS. But it's what they say:

We recommend the following procedure:
Ensure barrel is clean – no oil
Shoot 5 rounds of copper-jacketed bullets through the barrel
Run a few patches with (non-copper removing) standard gun cleaning solvent through the barrel and patch dry
Shoot 5 more rounds
Continue this cycle (Steps 3&4) at least 3 more times (for a total of 20 rounds), with an optimal total of ten cycles (50 rounds)
Store barrel with a light coat of oil. Patch oil prior to shooting.

The idea is that the jacket material will fill in voids and imperfections in the surface of the bore.  This is in lieu of lapping it, or wearing it smooth with the old "clean after every shot" routine.  In theory, you will have a smoother, more uniform bore, without removing the base metal.  I suppose you could equate it to the effect that fouling shots have.  I've never tried it, myself, so I won't comment on its efficacy.

I was getting there.  Place holder from my phone so I could type it out.

Anyway, took it out again.  Its good enough for hunting with the 123 Hornady SST.

When it gets hot, it isn't happy.

So, clockwise from upper left:  SST, Berger 130s on Federal, Wolf Military, 90 Grain American Eagle and Hornady Black (what I used to zero) in the middle.

The other 3 groups were a more rapid fire starting with SST center, Berger upper right and then Black upper left.  The 130 Berger showed a nice group but I don't know where the flyer came from.  The vertical stringing on the SST was a surprise.

If I were shooting a scope made for precision I think I could tighten up some more.  Right now I am using a Leupold 3-9 VX-R Patrol  which I am going to stick with.

Thick stadia lines and 9X max isn't the best, but it will be good enough for hunting.

So I have a maybe 300 yard Deer rifle that is lightweight.

About 200 dollars in Ammo through the thing now.

It is a lot of fun to shoot and throws out 123 grains with very little recoil with an A2 birdcage on it.  Great for my kids, who it is for anyway.  Deer hunt planned for January, so we will see how it goes.
