Chinook flew past my place South to North no lights.
Before you say "So what?", this is in downtown Miami.
WTF??? Those things simply do not exist down here.

We had the 160th do night certs/training in downtown Miami but it was just Blackhawks and maybe OH-6 Little Birds. But no Chinooks.

One of the cool things about having clients in Arlington is the sky watching.

I've seen F16s, Ospreys land at the Pentagon, Marine 1 (or just the Sikorski (sp?), and I've seen a Cobra. Not an Apache though.

Tons of neat stuff around DCA.

I can't tell an aircraft by sound, but I can hear a sound and think "I bet that's something cool" and scan the sky. I'm usually right.

About 3 months ago, I saw two F-16s on final approach on 090/270 south runway at Miami International.
Before that, 4-5 years, two F-15E Strike Eagles fly over my place from MIA. THAT was nice!

Couple weeks ago I thought the house was coming apart. We were looking out all the windows then 2 mh-53's came over really low. It was surprising though because we heard them way before we saw them. Looked like they were headed due west towards Fort Drum.

Never seen one in the air before ever. Especially not up here in VT.

I see Chinooks overhead pretty often.  I guess that they are going to the joint base Fort Worth.  What was really interesting was a couple of months ago when I saw a Blackhawk, a Chinook and an apache flying at really low level over east Dallas.  This was such an unusual sight that people everywhere were shading their eyes and looking skyward.

500AGL off post is usually the lowest altitude we can fly.

As for the reason? Spreading freedom boners is a good one

I have them fly overhead every so often.

1 time I got a text from my brother who said go outside and look up. Group of chinooks flying overhead, he was headed for training and noticed he was near my house.

Freedom boners? Um, yeah, I do hereby state that the sound gave us all instant erections when it flew over our house.

I was in the house cooking lunch, and thought for a second. I said that ain't no Huey. Beautiful sound.

A zoom lens only does so much.

A know a guy, retired Army pilot, one of his assignments was in Germany during the late eighties. One of his duties was as a Flight Safety Officer, and at the time he was one of only a few in the 8th ID who had been to the school at Rucker as a Safety Investigation. He got called out on a fine Tuesday evening to Lake Starnburg to figure out why there was a 4th AHC 58 at the bottom.

The official investigation concluded that the accident was the result of pilot error that caused the tail rotor to strike the surface of the lake at about 100 knots. Among other personnel items found in the wreckage at the bottom of the lake was a very expensive camera with large zoom lens attached. After having the already exposed rolls of film and the film actually in the camera it turns out they were taking photos of women sunbathing on the beach. For those who don't know German women frequently sunbath topless.
