Yes, I searched...
Given the improvised weapons the left is coming up with and the ability that these weapons have to do some real damage, I'm thinking about getting a non-ballistic helmet to throw in the back of the car in case I happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I definitely don't want to catch a bike lock to the back of the head. I'd also like to have something that I can train with and mount NV if I ever decide to sell a kidney. You never know when I might be called upon for a swift water rescue, either. I'm tempted by the PT Bravo series. It's relatively low cost, but the reviews are good to meh. I'm willing to spend the scratch for a more expensive helmet, but it really needs to be worth it. If a Bravo is good for the padlock-in-a-hankerchief and hitting my head going through a doorway, that's good enough for me. If it's going to fold if a hairy inkie girl looks at me wrong, then I obviously need something better. Comment and suggestions? |

If I'm forced to get involved with those people it will not be swinging purses...

protec skateboard helmet
you can put some sweet stickers on it too |

Totally different animals.
You need very good suspension to hold up NVG's on a helmet or else you'll be struggling with ocular droop all the time. If it's just for bottles and rocks, any skateboard helmet will do. |

Ballistic helmets can be found fairly cheap as surplus. Or even steel pots.
|
|
just get a protech or a bell skate or bike helmet.
use the chinstrap. |
|
If you're going that route don't cut corners. It'll escalate to rounds being fired sooner or later.

I live in a state where I can carry a gun pretty much everywhere except federal property, so I'm not worried about it.
If they are trying the old padlock in a handkerchief on me, baseball bat, etc, they are gonna get shot. Its that simple. |

How cheap? Are you looking for ballistic?
The cheapest non-crap one I've found is Revision Viper A3 High Cut ... |

The Nike batting helm seems to be popular. I'd definitely want something solid. The air gaps in bike helms would be vulnerable to spikes and nails.

Given the price of some of these non-ballistic helmets, I may be willing to spend the extra $75 to step up to ballistic.
Ops-core bump is $275 Revision ballistic is $350 Appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not wearing a lacrosse helmet if I ever take a EAG course. Surprising there's a 70-odd page thread on plate carriers, but not a comprehensive one on helmet options. |

I picked up an M1 pot with liner and woodland camo cover for $35 last year. Nothing I needed but it's fun to watch Band of Brothers in my underwear with my GI 1911 and helmet, and if things ever get sideways in East Tennessee I'll be ready. If you are in a car, you are already inside of a helmet.
Just drive. |

I can't tell how serious of a thread this is.
If you don't have NODs just get a bell or protec skate helmet. If you need a ballistic helmet get an ACH if you're not using it with any regularity. ETA: A skateboard helmet will run $40, everything above that for a "tactical bump" helmet is paying for the cost of mounting and stabilizing NODs comfortably for periods of time. |
|
I can't picture how I will end up in some skateboard helmets, hockey pads and flag pole fight. I think you end up in those if you show up to a scheduled fight (okay they call them protests but they seem like scheduled jousts).
If a horde of anarchists show up at my house with pepper spray, sticks and wine bottles I'm going to shoot them. I guess if I was young and lived somewhere like LA I could see investing in some makeshift melee armor |

View Quote I am looking for primarily a non-ballistic, simply based on cost and expected likelihood of use. But I'm not opposed to stepping up to ballistic if there's not a huge price difference (which there doesn't seem to be for the HSLD versions). The protest stuff in the OP was kinda tongue-in-cheek, but actually I have been contemplating a helmet for training/SHTF for years now. |

funny subject.... Someone I know has ordered helmets, shield and other riot gear in bulk to sell due to the antifa crowds.
the product offering was interesting but Im not sure a ballistic plate from China is what I want. a few helmets and shield sure why not? lol |
|
that is awesome. we will have vendors a block or two back form the riots. how capitalist.
let me know when we are going to start neckbearding hoodies and bike locks. |

Oh, I'm serious. I just noticed there weren't any dedicated threads on helmet selection, ballistic or non-ballistic. Kind of surprising on arfcom. Usually they end up with people extolling the virtues of suspect brands of imported Chinese helmets that look like FASTs but are 1/3rd the price. A used ACH on the EE will run <$150. I've seen then as low as $75. |

Fuck skateboard helmets. If it comes time, I'll be rocking a Pickelhaube, football shoulder pads, and a jockstrap...and nothing else.
At least that way I'll be assured of my fifteen minutes of e-fame. |

Why waste money, time, and your life on a non-ballistic helmut? I have MSA MICH ballistic helmut and have a helmut shroud mount for NV equipment. These run about $500, but, I've gotten two on sale for $250 each. There are more expensive ballistic helmuts ($800-$1,300), but, the MICH offers good coverage at a more reasonable price.

How about a full face motorcycle helmet?
