Not a very big update today.
Students did rework the blackhawk landing gear housing a bit, smoothing out a spot and also sealing the access panel on the tail, where the two halves meet. We never did a very decent job of finishing that. The Capitol is further along. That is the only picture I got today. I've been grading portfolios and final projects.

Update 5/20
The "End" is near..... Last week to finish this all up. We did get the label maker working, and most of the wires marked inside the fuselage. I'm told that our Robotics engineer(also Valedictorian this year  ) says he's printing the parts we need for the door right now and will begin assembling them tomorrow.
We also began brainstorming for next year. We are in the very early stages. There are some fun ideas on the board. Space is a serious consideration, as the areas left are few. One open area is right in front of the FFA/Ag and Robotics classrooms. We are considering a theme that will fit with those classrooms. I like the SEAL team or Smoke Jumpers idea in the entrance to the Green pod, but we may run into a little push-back there with that location, as it on the edge of the Commons/lunch room area. It gets high traffic during events, including events where little kids are let loose, and unsupervised. WE would need approval from admin on any idea we do there.

I like the idea of the smoke jumpers. Or you could consider doing a fire bomber, which leaves all sorts of cool options from C130, DC10, or even a PBY.

If you do the Egyptian them for the Green Pod entrance, could it be something that the students would walk into to enter the Green Pod as if they were entering a pyramid or something? Or maybe something like the cave Indiana Jones went into at the beginning of the first movie except without spears, arrows, spinning saw blades, a giant rolling boulder, you know, all of the fun stuff. It could still spray water. I like the spraying water idea. |

Lots of missile history in your state.
Wyoming had the first operational ICBM site in the US, and qualifies as the world's seventh largest nuclear power because of the Minuteman wing at Cheyenne. Also the only wing where the Peacekeeper (MX) missile was deployed. Good friend of mine was the last squadron commander of that unit. If you go that route, let me know if you need anything. I don't have any social skills, but I know missiles.

I know you did a train last year, but they are tied together, as the first loco was at Promontory Point for the original ceremony, and Union Pacific just restored this one for the 150 year anniversary.

Update 5/22
Final day for students. Tomorrow is final day for teachers......and we are ALMOST finished. 
Here are the parts and housings that have been so painstakingly created and 3D printed 
This is the motor mount. 
This is the tensioner. It's really cool. 
By this evening he had all installed and was activating the door. It works.
Robotics is going to come back in tomorrow and wire up everything and finish the installation. |

Last day for teachers.  Who am I kidding? I'll be back this weekend, I can smell it already.
My youngest son, referred to as Top_Men from his glory days of our Space Shuttle Engineering , got to come home for a week, and said he will help guide our current Robotics student through some of the obstacles he encountered with the programming of the Shuttle doors. Robotics is supposed to show up today, but hasn't yet. We are also trying to locate the extra limit switches that I know I placed somewhere.
I grabbed some shots of the installed "garage door" style door opener. 
The Capitol Building and Library of Congress were also finished late yesterday and installed in the display.

Looks like the motor mount split along an extrusion layer. Is it under that much load, or overtightened when installed? May need to put some washers there if it's under much stress.

Update 5/24
Last day for teachers +1.
Camera was a little canted.... sorry. It's pretty level with the floor and sconce. 
This was from yesterday afternoon. He's working in programing now. 
This was taken about 30min ago. He's still there. He got the motion sensors mounted . He hasn't asked for help with the programming yet. 
When he gets it all working, I'll come back and airbrush the wiring to match. I may even move it and cut a hole in the hull to mount these. We will see how it goes.This is to the sensor thst faces front, and will activate the door, lights, and "Hail to the Chief " 
Second sensor is a bit more obvious. It's in the intake. Like before, it may get moved later. This will activate the door, lights, and "Ride of the Valkyries ".
