May have to order a roll.  I have hardened nozzles I've never installed.  Does it glue well?  I know a lot of the carbon filled filaments have a nylon base, which almost no glues bond to.

Its a PLA base with a rough surface. CA works good on it..

is the skin printed too, or laminated over a printed endoskeleton?

The skin is printed at the same time as all of the internal structure.  That's what makes for such a fast build.

Slic3r as far as I'm aware will not work.  Simplify3D is what I reccomend. It's really an awesome and powerful piece of software, but If you don't want to pay for it, Cura is a free option.  I don't have a set of profiles figured out for Cura, but you can google for 3dlabprint settings for Cura.

Totally worth it if you do a lot of printing.  I believe you can download it as a trial for free for 30 days if you don't want to wait to play with it.  And yeah....   Slicer does not like thin wall STL's.

Canards would drastically alter the entire setup.  CG would move, you could run into interference between the front and rear.  I wouldn't attempt it on the design as it is.  Got some other planes with Canards though.

What are you using for a print base?

I have a ghetto Prusa, maybe it is time to upgrade from the blue tape and glue stick.

That's the standard PEI sheet that comes with all of the original Prusa mkII's.  I've currently got a thin layer of glue stick on it that's been there for quite a few prints.  Not really needed for PLA, but for polycarbonate it helps with adhesion, and for PETG it cuts down on bed adhesion.  That green is PETG.

Maybe.  I'd strongly recommend using petg instead.  Should print similar to abs without the warping issues.  Would probably bypass the trouble pla gives you as well on that style printer.

Nah man, plastic is cheap.  If you've got a 4m sailplane you probably already have servos, esc's, and a receiver lying around.  All you need is a motor if you don't have one close to the recommended specs.    Motor is only 19.99.

I need to fix a few things on my printer like installing a bed heater relay.  And the speed annoys me, so I hope I don't end up with a new printer.

I still have most of a pound of PLA, but it seems to break with the slightest pressure, might be time for another roll.  Right now I am printing out some Nerf gun parts, that should make my son happy at least.

My kid is 6, but Nerf gun obsessed.  A while back he told me "Dad, you have to always remember to carry a spare magazine, in case you have a malfunction, it is faster to swap to your backup."  His mom looked at me like .
Last week he was over at the dart war place and took great pride in knocking a bunch of teens and adults out during the rounds.  I guess they were not nearly as amused as he was.

Same kid told me he needed a kids welding helmet.  When I asked why he looked at me like I was an idiot; "How am I supposed to learn to weld without a helmet?"  Guess the look I got from mom?

I use a Prusa i3 MK2s.  However, cheaper printers can get the same results.  You can hook the printer up to your computer, though most also accept an SD card, so you can just copy the files you want to print onto those instead of running a cable.

Browse thingiverse.com, or myminifactory.  There's probably hundreds of thousands of things out there you can download and print.

Never heard of that brand, it's probably a cheaper clone of the Creality CR-10s.  Which is in turn basically a bigger clone of the Prusa.  It does look to have direct drive though, which is good, I've just never heard of it.

If you have a use for the larger print area, or just want the option, I'd look at a CR-10 instead.  Massive amount of online support for that one, lots of people own them.

CR-10S from Gearbest

I have an even larger version of one of those.  A CR-10S-4, which I've been quite impressed with.

Yup.  And crazy the amount of cheap stuff that is great.  A few years ago I used to fly slope in a spot that was over the water and the landing area had palm trees and a pool.  Actual landing spot was maybe 2x15'.  A few people asked what I was going to do if I landed in the water...who cares?  $15 in servos and $10 in an rx was the cheap price of fun.

Yet people still buy so many of the crappy ARFs out there.

I have to admit, I have seen so low inverted passes, but that takes the cake.

I have been kicking around the idea of a small underwater UAV.  Pretty much standard process for those folks to just leave the motors exposed to (fresh) water.

I spend some summers at an old retired gold mind around here and there is a lake with a bunch of old equipment in it.  Has always been debate what is in there and I am not crazy about the idea of diving it until I knew what was there better.  I had planned to go up with my side CHIRP sonar this year and it just didn't happen.  I wouldn't mind risking an UAV.

Also, consider the Alfawise U20. It's a copy of the CR-10 (yes, the Chinese even copy themselves). It's $279 at Gearbest with the code GB-$20OFF. It's very easy to assemble and get running.

I've had one for a few weeks, you can see my review of it at https://youtu.be/Kb7sqyXvHMU

If you're good at mechanical assembly and setting stuff up, the Ender 3 is only $179. I've got two of them and get great prints. If you're not, stick with the Alfawise U20, CR-10 or if you want to splurge, the Prusa.

No problem man.  I wanted the plane to be as universally printable as possible.  200x200 is kind of the standard size.  Working on a version that's 25% smaller and will print on 150x150 printers.  Needs a .3mm nozzle for that one to save on weight though.

OP got me inspired to start printing some bigger stuff.

Decided I would start with the utility ship that Peter Sripol had printed, kicked off the rear section this morning in my office and to be honest...forgot about it.

Walked in to the first part of the print laying on the floor and about a 4oz ball of plastic wrapped around the print head.  Oops.

Hah, that sucks.  Peter's boat uses a lot of filament, if you're doing the big one.

At least if the airplanes parts fail to print you generally just get spagetti instead of giant chunks of plastic.

For anyone's that interested, simplify 3d factory files and prepared gcodes for all parts in petg have been added to the thingiverse page.

If you have an i3 style printer with at least 200x200x170mm of build area you can give the prepared gcodes a try without any configuration or setup.

The factory files will let you tweak my optimal settings to suit your printer and filament if you have simplify3d.
