I work these types of investigations for a living. While sex trafficking does occur, I always pause when claims are given like 150k children sold into sex slavery in the US each year, and they turn 40 tricks a day. It just sounds like sensationalism. Exaggerating a problem won’t help the enforcement effort, only hinder it. People now expect that many arrests to be occurring each year and get angry that it isn’t happening. Just where exactly are they getting these numbers?
In 2017, around 2,000 “trafficking” cases were prosecuted federally. Most of them were child porn production cases or travel to have sex with a minor. Very few are abduction/sex slave cases. I see the trafficking label applied to more and more prostitution or rape cases just to satisfy the political demand for trafficking cases. Padding stats like that only dilutes the effectiveness of law enforcement. They are terrible crimes. There is no need to exaggerate the problem though. If they pass any laws it should be for harsher sentences. The people we target truly are monsters and recidivism is extremely high. |

To be clear- I have no use for kiddie-diddlers and feel they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. I just wonder how the "government can't and shouldn't legislate morality" crowd that wants pretty much everything else to be legal can, in the same breath, support laws dictating age of consent and relationship requirements for sex. Those laws are TOTALLY based on Judeo-Christian values, and are, from a logic stand-point, no more or less "moral" or "just" than laws against drug use. Right now, the cultural norms that most adhere to say sex with kids is bad - those same norms USED to say "drugs are bad." I expect that within my lifetime we will see a swing toward legalizing sex with children, and we'll hear the same BS they used about drugs: "its natural" and "people have always done it" and "we've waged a 'war against pedophiles' for years and all it's done is imprison nonviolent people and cost taxpayers money" and "we need to bring these people out of the shadows, so they can have safe sex with children, which will be better for everyone." I hope I don't live to see it, but I think it's coming. |

I remember being at a store in Texas once . There was a couple with a child in line in front of me . He was Hispanic, late 30’s at the very least , early to mid 40’s more than likely. Had a very “illegal” look to him . Cowboy hat and boots , fancy ones , bling bling belt buckle and belt ,pearl snap shirt, gold chains and rings . His bride was somewhere in the 12-14 range . Wearing fairly slutty clothes, and an aweful lot of makeup. She had a baby . It was very obvious that she was his woman . She was very very young but tried to hide it . That encounter has stuck in my mind over the years for some reason . It is common where they come from.

A 1LT in the BDE I support was arrested a couple of weeks back in Twin Falls when he attempted to lure a 13 year old girl into having sex with him via text messaging. The only problem for the 1LT was that the "13 year old girl" was actually a DHS agent working with a joint task force to snare child predators off internet ads and put them behind bars.
He's looking at spending years in the same prison that he used to drive by when he went to the field to train. The phone call to his (soon to be ex?) wife after his arrest sometime after midnight must have been interesting. Oh, and bail is $175,000.00 dollars. The moral of the story (for those lacking a moral compass) is that if an underage girl offers to give it up to you, run away faster than a raped ape. |

At one point a couple of weeks before they died, both were arrested, children taken by CPS, and then they were released pending investigation or someone bailed them out. We all liked him and I still can't believe the same guy I worked with was capable of doing such a thing if what I was told was true. I didn't even know he owned a sidearm. |
