There are a few that folks keep saying it could be, but Port Charlotte seems to the the most popular one. Bruichladdich is another one and ive seen Caol Ila and Lagavulin mentioned in possibilities Its really good.. especially for the money. Problem is I'd have to drive into Jersey to get it. Costco can't sell liquor in PA. Yeah. Ive driven to other states for beer that does not distribute to AZ... but dont have to deal with state stores. I dont think i could live in a state with state liquor stores... it sucks when ive gone somewhere and forgot they had that and went to get a bottle of something and they are all closed or you are not near one. |

Leaning toward Dalmore 12 or Glenlivet 12 or 14 at this point. Keep the suggestions coming!!
Thanks |

Big fan of the Aberlour, also like the Glenfiddich 15 on up.
If you want to try a blended I would suggest Grants (Glenfiddich distillery) if you can find it or THE Famous Grouse ( Scotland's answer to Jim Beam). Good Luck! |

I’m probably Going to be labeled an uneducated heathen for this… I like one called “tomatin sherry cask” 36 bucks a bottle and I find it great. I tried dewar 12 but didn’t find it as complicated or enjoyable.

Yamazaki if you can find it.
Hibiki Harmony Nikka Coffey Malt (not Coffey Grain) Takasura Pure malt. |

I tend to prefer the smokier cask strength Scotches. 3-4 ounces of the liquor and one large ice cube. I really enjoy how the flavor profile and aroma changes as the ice cube melts.
|
|
I concur this is a good one to try if you have enjoyed sherry finished Scotch. |
|
Balvenie 14yr Caribbean cask. Johnny walker green label. Glendronach 12. Glengoyne anything. Glenfarclas anything.
At this stage in your whiskey trip, these seem best. When you get to the independent bottler phase, report back and I’ll have new answers. |
|
Glenlivit French Oak Reserve, Macallan 12; favorite is Oban 14.
|
|
If you like Macallan you’ll like Balvenie. Caribbean Cask or Double Oak or whatever. It’s just good.
ETA: my favorites are Macallan and Balvenie. I found Oban and Dalmore rather bland. Glenlivet is what started me with scotch, but now it just tastes like grass. Ardbeg it obnoxious with the smoke. To me it’s for hipsters that only drink it to “impress” others that he’s so sophisticated that he likes super smoky, while in reality he’s choking on every sip. |

Quoted: While I'd like to avoid the sweaty socks and other similar notes....I'm open to trying a little sample or 375ml bottle of whatever. Just doesn't seem like it'd be my cup of tea. View Quote Lagavulin 16 is pretty much the gold standard for Islay scotch. Lots of smoke, lots of subtle flavor notes but not the "rubbing alcohol filtered through iodine soaked band aids, sweat socks and chimney scrapings". Try it at a bar in case you hate it, since it generally runs a hundred bucks a bottle, but it's really, really good. |

Hit up your local Target store and look in the holiday section for a few different whiskey gift packs to taste test.

I'm in the PA/NJ area, my favorites, outside of the excellent ones you already listed as tried, are:
Oban - either classic 14 yr or the Oban Little Bay which is pretty affordable, and quite good. A bit sweet; if you like a fruity quality, this would be my first suggestion. Aberfeldy - another good one that's not a bank breaker Laphroig - probably my favorite Islay, but as such it's smoky and different than Highlands or Speysides Ardbeg - Also smoky, maybe not quite as much as Laphroig though Scotches I've tried but wouldn't really recommend: Glendronach and Dhalwinnie; they were okay but sort of thin and meh Scotch I detested so much that I gave the bottle away: Bowmore's budget offering: was like grain alcohol w/ cigarette butts and lemon pledge sprayed into it. |

Quoted: Dahlwhinnie. Received a bottle as a gift and though it's not my style (I prefer the peat), it was pretty good. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/18716/F95736CA-6BE2-4B0D-ABAC-3157865EFA66-2627279.jpg View Quote |

Glenfiddich 15 is always good I've found. Nice and smooth, good for sipping.

Since a few have derailed this thread from what OP likes to what they like, my (AZ) Costco has a special on Lag: normally $80/bottle, $60/bottle of you buy 3.

Suntory Toki and Monkey Shoulder mixed 50/50.
I shit you not, it's great. I didn't like either separately. Hated to waste them. |
|
Bruichladdich unpeated 2011 is excellent, probably my favorite.
Glenlivet 18 Oban 14 Aberlour 12, better than the 16 IMO Lismore 18 is really good for the price Macallan Harmony cacao, this is amazing Balvenie Carribean cask Balvenie 21 Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Lasanta Lagavulin 16 peat/smoke amazing finish |

Glendronach 18 is the best I've ever tried. $230 a bottle last time I saw it in the US

I started my journey with a very expensive bottle of The Macallan that was gifted to me. Tonight I stood at the whisky shelves in a large store and realized that now I have tasted a wide variety of what's on those shelves. And I reverted to The Macallan for an upcoming special occasion. Sort of a combination wake and Christmas party.
It occurred to me that scotch is perfect. It can be used to mourn, or to celebrate, and Saturday we will do both. |

I just poured two fingers of Deanston 12 year to enjoy tonight. When the Deanston is gone I have a 15 year old GlenAllachie waiting in the wings. If I can’t find those then I’ll go to Glenfiddich 12 year,All of these are Speysides. Glenlivet 12 year used to be my go to single malt but the taste changed a few years ago and it’s just not for me anymore.
