Depends on the girl.  I’m still disappointed I didn’t get my sequels to the new Tomb Raider and Haywire movies.

This new Mad Max as nothing more than a supporting character?  Hell no!

I didn't see it that way.  Max's story is always about what is right, and keeping good moral character when all around you is evil and falling.  He wants to help everyone, but knows he can only do so much as one man.  His feeling of guilt is constant, by not being able to "save" everyone.

Let's look at his story arc in Fury Road:

He had the guts to try and escape.
Thus, led to his classification as "high octane" blood...
Which turned into him being brought along for the chase...
Then he helped all of those women, including Furiosa, to survive...mostly.  He did a LOT of sacrificing for the good of others.
He had a lasting effect on at least one of the warboys, in such a short time frame.
At the end of the day, he did the best he could and saved lives, by doing the right thing all the time.
His personal guilt remains.

Max is and always will be the hero, and example to look up to.

Furiosa came off as more of a poorly planning idiot in Fury Road.  Her heart seemed to be in the right place, but really she just wanted to get herself back to the green place.  She failed...miserably, and got some of the people she was trying to help killed in the end.  Of note, she couldn't have remotely accomplished a fraction of the "good" of what she did without Max.

I'll wait for some reviews on this new one.  I enjoyed the story of Fury Road, but the visuals/audio/cinematography/dialogue are really what made it special.

Fury Road wasn't a Mad Max movie. it was a Furiosa movie and about her saving all of the female slaves. Mad Max the character just happened to be in it, but he had very little effect on the plot and the movie. He was a gimmick.

This is just another Furiosa movie.

Fury Road was epic because it was different. Brutally honest to the story itself. The stunts were real, and you felt it.

Furiosa looks like shitty CGI mixed with gurl power. It'll bomb, and that's a true shame.

Newer/longer trailer just came out.

Think the above trailer was a fan made one and not official.

I don't care what anyone says, I loved the first movie and going to see this in the theaters.

Looks like Chris Hemsworth is having a bunch of fun playing his part.

This looks badass.

I saw it for the first time two weeks ago. It made very little sense to me. No character development of any kind. Very little plot, almost none of which makes sense.

Basically a two hour long David Lynch action movie, essentially a fever dream you'd have after playing Borderlands or something and eating a pound of valerian root.

I'd like a Mad Max spinoff that starred Mad Max and not GIRL POWER!!

I kinda enjoyed Fury Road for the spectacle of it, but my #1 hugest complaint about it was how little of Max was in it.

They done doubled and tripled down and said fuck Max entirely.

I came at it from a place of never having seen Mad Max movies (any of them). So I had no idea of any of the characters, though I guess Mad Max was the only one that was consistent. But then it made no real sense anyway, so who cares?

The problem with Fury Road was that it was an empty spectacle.  The plot (if you can call it that with a straight face) was ridiculous, the characters ridiculous, and their actions both illogical and ridiculous.  If all you want is an illogical spectacle you should probably go see Cirque do Soleil instead

I don't know about this.  To my eye the previews look like a lot of CGI.  For me, Mad Max movies need to have greater than 95% physical stunts and effects, if it has to have any CGI at all.  But, I'll give it a watch when it comes out.

If you enjoyed Fury Road, this is a must see.

We saw this last night and loved it.

Other reviewers have said that this isn't as good as FR and I would agree... however... I'd also say that this is a different type of story.  Fury Road was a rolling event that spanned a few days. Meanwhile, this story spans several years of her life from a kid to Anya Taylor Joy, who doesn't appear until half way into the movie.  Take note that it's 2:30 hours long so while it has the breathing room for all that exposition, you may feel the length at parts.

Just read this on Deadline. Not good news for the summer box office, so far, with The Fall Guy and now this.

https://deadline.com/2024/05/box-office-furiosa-garfield-memorial-day-1235938017/

Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day opening in 29 years, the last time we bottomed out was 1995’s Casper ($22M). And as we told you in our summer preview, Alcon/Sony’s Garfield could beat her with a similar 4-day haul.

Mad Max: Fury Road opened to $45.4M and was beaten by girls at the box office in Pitch Perfect 2, which mowed him down with a No. 1 take of $69.2M in mid-May 2015.

How was the CGI?  Too much? Well done?  Not noticeable? Etc…

The one thing I enjoy is practical effects and/or high quality cgi that doesn’t look like cgi.

Fury Road was incredible.

Saw it Friday with my daughter and we both LOVED it.  It is different from FR in that FR was one long action packed chase scene.  This movie is paced differently, showing Furiosa’s back story over many years.  Don’t worry there are still some AMAZING action sequences.  This one expands the whole universe dramatically, and you see more backstory for the Bullet Farm, Gastown, Immortan Joe, and their relationship.  Chris Hemsworth was great.  I didn’t want to see it at first because I was thinking, “why would I want to see a whole movie about Furiosa”, but I’m glad I did.  There are more characters in this world than just Mad Max.  I’d see it again, because there is so much detail and world building I couldn’t absorb it all in one viewing.

Fury Road actually had a ton of CGI as well. Do people really think a car got sucked into a tornado?

Having said that, I think Furiosa used more of it and didn't blend it as well as Fury Road.  I don't think it took you out of the story though.

Agreed, this world is ridiculously over-the-top in all ways that a little cartoonish CGI doesn’t bother me.  Nothing in this world is realistic anyways.

The CG was pretty bad. Bad enough to be distracting. BUT, the story was engaging and I love this world, so I was able to get past it. Overall very much worth seeing if you can be forgiving of some dicey production quality.

Personally I'd kill to get back to the lean and mean B movie aesthetic of the original and best 1979 movie, but I know that's impossible.
